Re: MoW: Vietnam
Still holding out. I gotta say to everyone that it's not gonna be like Assault Squad's co-op play maps though, more SP and all. Not that necessarily is a problem for any of us, but y'know. Men of War Vietnam: Special Edition Preorder Released 09/09/2011 | | | | Quote: Men of War: Vietnam is a new game for the critically acclaimed series. The new, story-driven campaign lets you taste the explosive mix of the jungle, Hueys and rock-n-roll in 1968.
During this conflict the US troops were using not only new weapons, but new tactics as well. The war in Vietnam became the first military conflict where helicopters played a significant role, and this is one of the major features of this game.
The campaign is 10 missions and focuses on a team of elite special ops soldiers, and each one of them has a personality. The unit includes Sergeant John Merrill, machinegunner Jim Walsh, sniper Sonny Armstrong, grenade launcher operator Carl Dillan and combat engineer Bill Kirby. In some missions they can count only on themselves, while in the others they act together with regular US and South-Vietnamese troops.
Missions range from special operations (rescuing a shot-down pilot, escorting a reporter, etc.) to full scale battles.
Key features:
-The new campaign tells the story of the US special ops team in the Vietnam War -Breathtaking missions including an ambush on the Ho Chi Minh trail, a game of cat and mouse in the Mekong Delta, raids into Cambodia and Laos, bridge defense during the Tet offensive and more -New weapons and units: M-16, T-54, M-113, Patton III, M-60, AK-47, M-14, RPG-2, M-72 LAW, RPK and many more | | | | |

Re: MoW: Vietnam
That website is really sketchy. I realize it's apparently by Eurogamer or whatever, but it's got me a bit nervous. I got the download, but the promised email never materialized, nor do I have a serial number or unlock code so I can actually play the game. I know it's not out for 3 days, but there's nothing anywhere saying that I'll get that code, and if I do, will they email it to me? will that email magically not happen either? Oh yea, and no Steam registration code.
To top if off, there's a very questionable html page included with the game download that uses frames(!) to mastertronicdownloads.com, which looks like a domain name squatting page. If my unlock / Steam code doesn't show up in 3 days, I'll probably call this charge fraudulent and get a new credit card issued.

Re: MoW: Vietnam
Got my unlock code after having to screw with emails again. For some reason, it just won't send to clankiller.com. Worked fine with gmail though... go figure. Anyway, I now have MoW Vietnam, though I still have no clue how I'm supposed to be able to get a Steam version.

Re: MoW: Vietnam
Doesn't the usual "Activate product on steam" work?

Re: MoW: Vietnam
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/s ... ostcount=7(the guy answering is from the MoW dev team) Apparently there were problems yesterday with steam not recognizing/activating the keys yet, so it may only be temporary. Anyway, like Peltz said, give it another try with the 'activate a product on steam' option and the MP code. Btw, apparently the first mission is balls hard. Even Jim at RPS, a noted fan of the series, had his criticism on it... http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/09 ... /#commentsThe soundless choppers sound completely ridiculous - I hope (and think) that'll be changed soon enough though.

Re: MoW: Vietnam
Yea, neither the multiplayer code nor the securom (blech) code work on Steam. Game's also got limited activations and shit.
Haven't actually played it yet, though.

Re: MoW: Vietnam
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/s ... ?t=2110237At the very least, there is comfort in knowing that you're always SUPPOSED to be able to register the game in Steam I guess. Wait and see for a few days or contacting customer support as he suggests would be my best guess.

Re: MoW: Vietnam
I'll wait on it a bit. I mean, I have the game installed and running stand-alone, so it's not critical. And maybe they'll fix it without me having to waste time blabbering at tech support.

Re: MoW: Vietnam
ok, so, a few things 1. The first mission is ridiculous. It's insanely hard, even on Easy... and for the first mission? Seriously? You have 4 guys, if anyone dies, they're gone. You have to destroy 3 helicopters and then steal some vehicles, as well as a bit of an easier lead-up. But if you start shooting, the helicopters take off, and then you're just screwed. It's redonk, seriously. 2. I bought the game outside of Steam, but apparently updates are being delivered only through Steam(!?). So... I can't play multiplayer with anyone unless they're on the original, unpatched version as well. WTF!? 3. DLCs are Steam-only...so... if you don't have Steam, no DLC for you! supposedly, there's talks going on about letting people get Steam unlock keys or something, but damn, man... that's just screwed up. I blame 1C, not Steam or getgames, but overall it just sucks for gamers. Beyond that, the game itself isn't great. I can't beat the first mission even on easy. Thus, the game blows ass in my view. Pretty poor showing. Maybe once I get past the first mission it'll get a bit easier... will do some googling for info on how to beat it.

Re: MoW: Vietnam
Well, point 1 and 2 are basically caused by the same thing: the problems with getting the non-steam keys to register on Steam, which was always the idea (that's why they didn't bother with releasing DLC outside of Steam) but somehow seems to be causing a lot of issues. As for the first mission and the game's overall difficulty, yeah, very similar sounds from other people and media sources. Jim from RPS, a notoriously die-hard fan of the series, wrote about a week ago and wasn't too happy http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/09 ... r-vietnam/Yeah he's not too pleased...haven't seen a full review yet, but like I said I'm hearing from everyone that the game is all over the place and suffering from major gameplay issues. The engine is supposedly not even the streamlined, gorgeous spectacle of Assault Squad, instead a heavily modified version of the original MoW engine. Hearing all that and your input, I think I'm gonna hold off buying this as long as possible, in the hope that they fix this shit. I just wish they'd release 10 more Assault Squad co-op conquer maps, I'd be all over that shit.
