And i ragequit this new campaign too.

Suddenly a shit load of barbarians appeared and captured my capital and one other city with 1-2 units. I don't understand how my warrior unit fortified in my capital (founded on a solitary hill), with walls loses out to 1 barbarian archer unit.

lol @ Derf fulfilling Satis' prophecy in a matter of hours.

And yeah, an archer unit should never be able to capture a city on their own if it has a wall...unless they are elite ninja archers and your army consists of nothing but peasants with pitchforks.

Rage quit again.

I checked the "No Barbarians" option when starting a new game, and single ridiculously strong barbarian units are randomly spawning in my borders. To kill them I need build a stack of about 6 units, 5 of which die.

sounds pretty lame. Derf, I think you need to learn programming and build your own game.

But that would hamper my ability to become a professional critic.

Hey derf... maybe if you're not up to it, you should start at the lowest difficulty level. :P

I can handle the general difficulty. It's the ganging-up factor, or the not-choosing-barbarians-yet-they-spawn-anyway factor that's absurd.

I might crank it down 1, to see if this fixes the ridiculous superiority of strength between barbarians and my forces.

This formula seems to work, although by chance I have a continent of my own as China. The yanks were my neighbors and declared war against me during the ancient era. I waged a costly and long war against them, but eventually pushed them off the continent. They now have their little island chain somewhere but the important thing is that they're reduced to irrelevance.

I'm kind of behind in the table rankings. It's now the modern age, but i'm behind with technology. Not entirely sure how, but whatever. I'm not getting baseraped which is good enough for me.

I even managed to rush to good ol communism, but couldn't afford to maintain it. I switched back to a pretty liberal / socialist government for now. My research and income as communist, was shot to shit. Besides, my production with this government now isn't that bad at all.

Oh and I played till 5 am last night. Pretty fucked up at work right now. :D

haha, I was up til 4.30 AM and am pretty fucked up at "work" as well. I actually overslept by 40 mins...sssshhh.

re: shift to communism...isn't there a transitory period when you make a grand societal switch? Maybe the hit to your economy was only temporary? Also, do you trade enough technology around? Buying, bullying and stealing usually work wonders in Civ-style games - they sure are cheaper than rsearching everything yourself anyway.

But knowing you you've cut off all diplomatic relations and are living the isolationist life on your island continent. :P

Post Re: Civilisation V
The thing is, my economy was shot and wasn't really recovering. I was actually losing money, even with research spending at zero, so it was totally unaffordable.

I'm sure there will be a case for switching back later on, when i've done the majority of the research and my economy is better.

As for trading technology, I don't really do that. Sometimes another civ contacts me and asks for a (bad) trade, which I accept normally but other than that, I keep contact with other Civs to a minimum. Apart from the odd trade agreement, I really don't think the diplomacy is worth the effort. Their offers often sound too unreasonable for me, so I say, screw you, i'm gonna isolate myself.

I can't wait to start pumping out carriers and quick reaction stacks, strategically positioned at other Civ's oil, coal, aluminium, etc resources :)

1 wrong move, and you're ass is mine :D

Often they demand tribute from me, which I always provide, but once i'm able to fend for myself, i'm gonna be saying "go fuck yourself" quite a lot.

Remind me to pile on demands to you in the early game if we ever do a TBS game together. :P

Okay, it's fun, i'm still in the modern age with no army, but it's kinda feeling like a grind to the future age right now.

There's perhaps too much technology and variation.

Haha...so now you're saying the game is bad because it has too many features? I think if you'd let a psychiatrist analyse this thread and your attitudes to the game(s), he'd come up with a mix of schizophrenia, manic depression and OCD. ;)
