Driving? Really? I'm happy they're doing this since Duke Nukem 3D was so fucking epic, but I hope they dont fuck it up.

Yeah I was a bit gutted about the driving (and the choice of sound track) but still.

I've got the first access demo invite loaded and ready to accept when they finally update it to the website *checks*

They got the voice spot on though... I wonder if it's the same guy... *checks again* [EDIT] Yup, all apparently voice by Jon St. John excluding the games before DN3D which were Joe Siegler and Todd Replogle.[/EDIT]

Also, what is it with forums and making me type one line paragraphs?

Yea, it's the 'one line paragraph' mod I installed the other day.

I totally forgot to post this video... but yea, it's awesome. "I'd still hit it". freaking epic.

There's a preview review up on ars technica. Basically, the guy was pretty underwhelmed by the game. too bad. :( But not exactly surprising. I still hope it does well, despite the fact it's not uber-awesome. He also played the xbox 360 version, not the PC version, so some of his quibbles over frame rate and graphics will, hopefully, not apply to the PC.

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2011 ... orever.ars

some quotes:
Quote:
The truth has to be told, however: the game simply does not look very good.

Quote:
Duke doesn't have a health bar—he has "ego," and you can build up your level of ego by doing things that Duke would do. So grab a barbell, do some reps, and you get more ego. Sign a kid's autograph book and you get more ego. We'll leave you some surprises, but if you think there is a something a very masculine cartoon should do to make himself feel better or to treat a woman as an object, you should do it in the game to gain ego. The ego meter is just like shields or health in any modern game; if you're near death, you can escape combat and wait for it to replenish.

Quote:
And this is the problem I had with Duke Nukem Forever: I could list jokes and throwbacks to the original game or go on about this graphical deficiency or that hiccup in the framerate, but the game just didn't grab me. It didn't spark my imagination. It just made me miss the original. The game's technical flaws did a lot to keep me distant, and nothing in the game did enough to draw me in.

I can see where this preview would be very true - the game has a lot to live up to, but will probably only be a standard shooter with adult humour in it - but looking back that's all the original duke was. It was the signature character, kick as sound track and good level design that made it worth playing. It had nothing to do with the boobies, honest.

I'm looking forward to this

Image

The Balls of Steel Edition, comes with:
* Numbered, limited-edition certificate of authenticity
* 100-page hardcover book: The History, Legacy & Legend: Duke Nukem Forever Art from the Vault
* Duke Nukem Forever postcard series
* Duke Nukem Forever radioactive emblem sticker
* Duke Nukem Forever collectable comic book
* Duke Nukem Forever foldable paper craft
* Duke Nukem Forever poker chips
* Duke Nukem Forever mini-card deck
* Duke Nukem Forever radioactive emblem dice

However, what I really want is the duke nukem 360 controller to become a reality:

What the hell would I do with a bust of Duke Nukem!? I think I'll be skipping the balls of steel edition, though it is tempting.

You may want the controller, but I want the twins that are south of the controller.

I still plan on buying Duke Nukem, probably when it comes out. I have to. After this long, I owe it to myself.

Lol, after spending much of the night with people explaining their bad jokes, that one did make me laugh! (though it may have something to do with the alcohol I ingested).

I really do think it's all down to the original duke nukem being a standard shooter with a good hook though. So hopefully the same is true over a decade later.

True, tech and gameplay-wise Duke3d wasn't very impressive, but it was fun.
