i've heard enough to be convinced that you HAVE to get this game, another true classic (i hardley play doom3 at the moment, gets kinda boring :? )

Yeah, I liked Doom³ myself, but for example when I said to a mate of mine that HL2 rips Doom³ to pieces, his answer was "obviously, cos Doom³ wasn't all that great anyway." ;) I think that's a bit much said cos it's still a good game, but in terms of living up to the hype HL2 seriously owns it. Good luck sneaking off BJ. You can prolly turn open quite a few gfx options on that monster rig of yours :D

When I promised screenshots "yesterday night" it became "today" because I was finishing the game then. :P So, here we go.

In the third one I closed myself in in a small dark service room next to a tunnel...outside there's tons of headcrab zombies crawling around in the dark between car wrecks, making scary grunts. I ended up in here and barricaded the door with my gravity gun. :) The window is bullet-free, thankgod. Gave me a place to breathe, and to be safe in the dark for a sec, as you can see my flashlight is almost gone. (and yes, you can use flashlight+weapon in HL2)

second: me and barney&co clearing out houses, that was a wild part of the game...barely any time to breathe or reload, let alone look back. Liked this one for the lighting.

first: things got kinda messy here...and it's not even my fault :P

some shots of NPC's...the facial detail is very well done, imho.

1: talking to Barney and Dr. Kleiner (on the vidcom thing)

2: I found these in a building somewhere...the woman cracked an is crying on the sofa, the man is comforting but (judging by his face) isn't too sure either what to do.

3: A medic...looking scared. Prolly for good reason. :) And remember that the expressions on their faces change, they don't run around like this all day.

Some gravity gun stuff this time

1: I pity the next thing/person I meet....

2: I'm in an abandonded house surrounded by Combine soldiers in this one; but the first one of them to walk throough that door is gonna be in for a suprise.

3: headcrab zombies are ideal to use the gravity gun against. they're strong but slow, so you have the time to aim stuff accurately . And a metal chair to the head does the trick. ;)

Some ravenholm pics...Ravenholm rocks, and you're guaranteed to have a fright here and there in it. The kind that makes you fall of a roof in the game; or makes you empty a full clip on the next enemy. ;)

firs one: the streets belong to the zombies, so you're best off hopping roofs and such

second one: father Grygory...great guy

last one: well...zombie in enclosement+gas= partytime!

Some outdoors pics

1: If you can avoid it, don't set foot on the sand...it's ant lion territory. There's one of them in the pic. But believe me, you don't wnt an entire pack shredding you apart. They're fast, can fly and hunt in packs.

2: Dog (that's its name) tearing things apart

3: Abandonded farm where we're holding out, the Combine dropship is about to bring in more of them...you can already see two to the right, but far away.

Pff, I got so many cool screens that I could keep on posting, but I gotta look out that I don't spoil too much. :( Last batch for now, from my favorite part, the Nova Prospekt prison. I don't know what it is, but the graphics come out really throughout it...maybe it's the grittiness? Oh, and making your way into it is a classic moment.

1: you mess with me? you mess with YOU ;)

2: love it

3: this proved to be the silence before the storm

rofl.....try using jasc paint shop pro. That's a good all-around editor with a 30 day free trial! heh. www.jasc.com I think

Anyway...I bought it yesterday because I'm bored of SWG. I'm playing at 1024x768 with graphical settings all on high...I may tweak em a bit and turn em higher. No framerate problems yet. It's a pretty game, no doubt about it, but it's not mind-blowing like doom3 was when I first loaded it up. Also, I hate steam. The game has some bugs (ever drove past the end of a level without the game picking up the fact you hit the end of the level?) and some of the levels are really repetitive. :) However, overall I'm liking it alot. I'm just glad the stupid vehicles levels are over.

FFS, I typed a whole freaking thing here but fucking uni internet explorer did a spontaneous refresh, ERSING ALL THE STUFF I TYPED;, bah.

So, anyway, @gfree: my screens might look a bit rugged but that's because I played a part of the game on a way too low res. Resultion is cos i'm a low-res-ho. =)

@BJ: the in-game screenshots feature does its work well...decently sized JPG's, just press F6. :)

@BJ and Satis:

Great to see that you both bought it, good on ya! :)And yes, steam sucks but now I actually own a game I can live with it, kinda. Valve is lucky that HL2's superiority kinda puts steams suckiness to the background. :) Where are you guys in the game? The vehicle levels are slightly too long, I agree. But they're still very ok, of course. The best stuff comes afterwards anyway ;)

So anyone did Nova Prospekt yet? It's one of my highlights and the only place where I really had problems for a while. And I'm sure you're all loving the gravity gun. :D (Doom 3 Xp is gonna have the "grabber gun", wonder where they got that from? ;) ) I don't necessarily agree on Doom 3 being better gfx-wise... after all, most of it was dark and Hl2 brings tons of open spaces and city stuff, something that was seriously missing in Doom 3. Bleh, they both have their qualities. Anyway, parts of the last lvl are mind-blowingly nice, you'll see.

And especially for Satis: a bit of Hl history. :)

In HL1 you're a scientist in the government complex Black Mesa; and when an experiment goes wrong aliens from Xen invade the base...you fight yourself a way out of there between the alien and commandos/black ops sent to cover everything up (including you ;) ). You fight your way out, and the mysterious G-man offers you to come work from him..it's that or spend your time fighting armies of Xen aliens, really. So, you go into his service...that's where HL1 ends. In Hl2 he calls upon you and sends you to City 17, as you have already gathered. You've prolly seen the G-man a few times throughout the game too. So, that's how it begins. Nobody knows who or what the G-man is and what his cause is, but since Hl is supposed to be a trilogy we'll know soon enough. :)

Bleh, what more can I say? I can't post screens cos i'm at uni, but i will do so in a bit. Hl2 rocks. When they release the 'surprise' (prolly deathmatch) I'm so gonna own you both. Or something. Is it lagwise possible to play against ppl in the US? Just wonderin'. :) Btw Satis, there's a WFA project for HL2 going down, apparently.

P.S. STRIIIIIDDEEEEER
