Weekly yes, more exspensive no.
To pay weekly, divide monthly by 4. works out same.
Maybe slightly more if there are longer months. *shrugs*
I don't think hourly would rule, you'd have to go pay the rent every hour.

Heh, alternatively, you could order your bank to transfer the rent automatically every time it's due, spares you a lot of running. I don't know the English word for that, but in Dutch it's a 'domiciliëring'. Used for frequently recurring bills like gas, water, electricity etc.

lol....
Ox, the paying 2 months rent thing is called a deposit. Yes, very common in the US. It's meant to cover costs if you damage the apartment/house. You usually get (most of it) back shortly after you move out and they've had a chance to make sure you didn't rip anything out of the walls or something. hehe
I've never seen an automatic bill pay for apartment/house rent. Virtually everything else, though.
heh.....here there are places you can rent weekly, but it's EXPENSIVE compared to a real lease. Of course, most leases are a minimum of 6 months, and even paying monthly is more expensive.

Well, likewise, i'd hate to be most of you people.
Anyway, Ox, it's called "direct debit" but because it's not through an agency, it's private, we just pay cash in hand. Otherwise we'd have to give our landlord our debit details, and that would suck.

K, tnx everyone for the info...learned a few things about the world today, yay! Go me. One minor question tho: is it common to pay the rent cash in the UK? Cos i'd think a common bank transaction would be much less of a hassle, or maybe not? Prolly depends on how you get paid too. Blech. I need a Visa card, so I can pay stuf online with it. All my settled friends have one, so I can ask them if I want, but that seriously cuts down on my impulse buying. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing, but apparently money-handling is the only thing i'm not completely sinful in.
EDIT: BJ, show your face more often man!

Some luck, got a number for a company that specialises in doing what we want. Aparently, we can get a large 2 room private bathroom flat for about £300 per month, which is only £20 more than what we are on for a small flat.
It's common to pay cash in the UK for things like what we are in, like... I don't know if this will make sense, but "accomadation" instead of "living space" sort of thing. But you'd generally pay by Direct Debit from a bank account for a proper mortgage or place that is more of a "home" than a roof.
Er... Geddit?

I didn't mean that I'd sorted it, I meant that the person that gave me the number for this company said that's what they charge. I'll phone them tomorrow.
