You can't live in the US without owning a car. At least not in most places. What public transportation there is really sucks (for the most part). I hear New York City's public transportation rivals any city in Europe, but definetely not Dallas.

Well the distances in the US are much bigger, so it isn't odd that public transport is insufficient. Transporting New York is pretty easy, lots of people in a small area. Profit assured.

good point. Maybe the fact that public transportation seems to have all kinds of shifty criminal elements gravitate towards it is another reason.
