Re: What are you playing now?
Did you finish the game by now? What's the verdict? I might be interested in it.
Saw you fired up Sunless Sea. It' a great game, but a few tips:
- Don't play in permadeath mode. The 'legacy' formula doesn't work so well with the narrative core of the game, so you don't want to die, start over and play through some of the same stories over and over again. - Increase the font size if you haven't already done so - took me a while to realize I could. The original resolution is too low for big screens - Cheat in some cash to buy the fastest boat + engine from the start. Most of the frustration (for me, and most people I know who played the game) is due to the infuriatingly slow early ship(s). The game is a lot more fun once it doesn't take 10 minutes to get across a mostly empty map.

Re: What are you playing now?
I did complete the campaing for Battletech. I still have it installed and plan on just playing more sandboxy murder kill, but was hoping to wait until they got some patches in for balance and maybe adding in more gear and stuff. It's a fun game, but there are some serious issues with the difficulty curve. Also, once you win, there's not a whole lot of reason to keep playing. Unfortunately, Paradox bought the Battletech developer, so now I'm afraid all of the promised patches are not coming any time soon. Initially they'd promised a bugfix patch in late May and an update/configuration patch in June/July. Seeing as the bugfix hasn't shown up yet, I'm rather concerned that patching the game has fallen by the wayside. Regarding Sunless Sea, I only played it for some badge thing that Steam was doing. :p Currently playing Assassin's Creed:Rogue, which is pretty good, actually. Previously to that, I completed Assassin's Creed: Freedom Cry which was TERRIBLE. That whole campaign took me like 5 hours. It was lacking in substance to the point of absurdity. I still have Unity and Syndicate left in my library. Too many freaking games. BTW, I picked up Arizona Sunshine for VR and it's pretty good. Also bought the new HTC Vive headset with higher resolution. I wish it wasn't so much work to set up to play in VR. The set up time alone makes me not want to play.

Mm I don't think they'll give up on Battletech now they're owned by Paradox, but I guess there may be a delay yeah. Probably has to wait until they draw out a plan for Paradox to nickle and dime you with future DLC expansions. How much setup does it require, the VR goggles? I imagined they'd work just like a joystick or something, a one-time setup and then you're done? Guess not. Currently playing Pillars 2 : Deadfire and Cultist Simulator. Both great games so far, no complaints here. Had my brothers over for a few days so no gaming, but things are going back to normal soon.

Re: What are you playing now?
VR setup is a one time thing, mostly, but it's a bit of a chore to clear area around the PC, recalibrate the headset center (pretty much have to do that each time or you're a bit off from where you were last time), stuff like that. Arizona Sunshine you play standing, so I have to scoot crap out of the way and whatnot. For elite dangerous I also have to set up the joystick, throttle and pedals. none of it is a huge deal, maybe 5 minutes. Compare that to 5 seconds to do a non-VR game. *shrug* BTW, Battletech got its first patch today. I haven't had a chance to play it yet (nor will I) but I'm kind of excited. Regarding the thread, been playing Assassin's Creed games again. Started with Freedom Cry which is by far the worst AC game I've played so far. The thing took me 5 hours to complete. It was horrific. Then moved on to Rogue, which was a lot like Black Flag (not a bad thing). I really enjoyed it, but the ending left me feeling a bit underwhelmed. I've now moved on to Unity... which changes a lot of things. The controls are different, the graphics are a major upgrade, and things are very different than they've been. AC was pretty stagnant through the last few games, so it's a bit jarring to have everything change, but hey, whatever. Not very far in yet. We'll see how it goes.

Re: What are you playing now?
Yeah I saw that they announced the Battletech patch and updates. Keep us posted on how (and if) it has improved the game please. Been playing The Long Dark again as they added a new zone. It's pretty brutal: it's large, with lots of elevation and woods, a large ice cave system which is a pain to navigate and most importantly it hasn't got a single man-made structure in it. So no easy source of food and other materials such as cloth. It's all sleeping outdoors, hunting and foraging for food and trying to stay alive (a house is the easiest way to get away from wolves or bears, obviously). My character already survived well over 150 days and is extremely well-equipped, so I went in with the best gear and some emergency food. My plan was (and is) to map the entire area and navigate it without using any outside help (that is, not checking a map to see where the fuck I am when I get lost). Got most of the area mapped out now, which gives me a lot more freedom to move around as I know roughly where the next natural shelter (cave, hollowed out tree, or just a nook) is. In the beginning I was mostly performing lighlty packed expeditions into unknown areas with a relatively safe area as a home base, that I would return to every day. Then i'd move to the next point if I found a safe space. Been in some struggles with wolves and narrowly managed to avoid a bear or two so far, but my biggest struggles came from a stupid cold shower (walked under a waterfall and got hypothermia) and being stuck in a cave without any firewood on a particularly cold day with a blizzard going on outside and no wood in sight (the cave was next to a frozen river). Got through that just barely. But things are easing up now I know where I'm going (unless I get turned around in a snow storm) and my hunting has gotten incredibly efficient. I plan my rations beforehand and only usually need one bullet to take out a deer for a few days of food. I use my bow to fend off wolves when I can.

Re: What are you playing now?
Just recently watched The Grey... which if you don't know is about a plane going down in remote Alaska and wolves tearing up the survivors. Sounds similar.
Anyway, Battletech's patch has made things better if you haven't played the campaign yet. It doesn't add much reason to keep playing after, though. *shrug* I'm looking forward to possible expansions. I also wish they'd add more mechs and weapons and stuff. They have some items in the game you can't acquire other than via a plot mission... they could just add those to the stores or make them lootable via missions and I'd be happy for awhile. What the game really needs is some sort of end-game that is more than just collecting big mechs and big weapons.

Re: What are you playing now?
Mmm good to hear. Battletech is currently 20% off on GOG but it's still 30 euros and I got a lot of other games left to play. I also am getting an urge to play through the amazing nu-Doom again for some carnage. Was away last week and had visitors over the weeks before so didn't get much gaming in except for Cultist Simulator which left me with mixed feelings (see my steam review if you are interested). Probably going back to Pillars 2 : Deadfire now.

Re: What are you playing now?
Shiny and I just picked up Far Cry 5 for some coop mayhem. It's fun so far. Very similar to Ghost Recon: Wild Lands as far as the gameplay and general feel. Toward the beginning they make you climb a tower to turn on cell service or whatever. This is only amusing because they specifically say they're not going to make you do it again (unlike every other freaking Far Cry game recently). Since Shiny never played any other Far Cry game, the joke was lost on her.

Re: What are you playing now?
Haha yeah I stopped playing Far Cry games because of all these meaningsless tasks cluttering up the game really. Glad to see they're taking the piss out of it. How's the coop going, fun?
I've (kind of randomly) replayed Doom recently - the reboot that is - on a higher difficulty setting, ultraviolence. Was SO MUCH FUN still. I love that game. I'm really, really looking forward to the sequel but it won't be out before 2019. Booo.
Other than that I've played a lot more Pillars 2 and some Bayonetta from the couch when I'm tired. I never played the game on consoles (I don't own any) so the PC port is my first introduction to it. It's....weird. It's also quite good, and funny, and sexy, and challenging. But it has that Japanese weirdness to it that just makes you go 'erh...ok?' at times. Hard to describe but I think we all know what I mean. (no, it's not tentacle rape porn. Not this game anyway)

Re: What are you playing now?
I think the most Japanese game I've played was Guild Wars. Far Cry 5 is fun. Just not much time to play it, unfortunately.

Re: What are you playing now?
Haha I think the only thing japanese about GW was the characters and art style, really. But I'm sure that was your point. Saw you guys dived into No Man's Sky now that it has coop. Are you enjoying it?

Re: What are you playing now?
We tried it. I'm not so sure about it. There's some progression and missions to unlock new blueprints for crafting and stuff like that... but it feels kind of aimless and random. I played obsessively for about a week, but the urge has faded. Shiny didn't like it at all. There's just a serious issue with pacing and providing a real reason for playing other than a grind to unlock new blueprints for crafting, which requires more grinding for the increasing difficult to acquire crafting components. In other words... not so great at this point. Perhaps it improves later, or if we chose the creative option where everything is unlocked from the start.

Re: What are you playing now?
Sounds about right. Except for the first 10 minutes of the game where if you're not quick enough to harvest (thing) to make (stuff), you'll die.

Re: What are you playing now?
Sounds like Minecraft in space, except for the dying. That usually happens after you fall into a magma crater when carrying 50 kilos of diamonds, in a place you couldn't possibly find your body again.
