Re: US 2016 Presidential Election
I'm always amused when people try to claim a politician is a force of good, or against evil, or just like everyone else. It's like lawyers. They are all evil. There may be a slight difference in how evil, but it's like the difference between Sauron and the Nothing.

Re: US 2016 Presidential Election
While I agree in principle, I have never heard an actual potential (although it's rapidly becoming less so) US presidential candidate talking openly about a redivision of wealth before. In that sense he is definitely different than many of the other candidates who are much more obviously puppets for major corporations. Or in Trump's case, in it for personal gain.

Re: US 2016 Presidential Election
Oh, politicians can speak quite well and make all kinds of promises. Didn't Obama promise to get out of Iraq and to close Guantanamo? In the end, they're all just a bunch of liars.
I don't know if things are really getting worse, or if I'm just old, but man...

I think it's a little bit of both.

Re: US 2016 Presidential Election
Yeah, it IS a pretty shitty choice either way...
I think a lot of people (let's say everyone but a small group of people Trump hasn't insulted yet) will end up voting for Hillary just because Trump is even worse. I mean, this is the first time I've ever seen a good part of the Republican establishment openly say they will vote for Clinton just to spite Trump. Pretty crazy. I'm sure things won't be as bad as all the posturing now is suggesting, but still.
The craziest thing about all of this is that Trump has 0.0000 experience in politics. I mean, even Reagan was a governer before becoming president. It's something very unusual.

Re: US 2016 Presidential Election
Even disregarding Trump's phenomenal unpopularity with certain voting groups such as latinos, blacks and women, it's very hard for a Republican candidate to actually get elected due to the spread of population in the US. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the ... id=sm_qscc

Re: US 2016 Presidential Election
Troop withdrawal (from an embroiled position) and the closing of a prison camp is not comparable to the shake-up Sanders appears to represent. I mean, we're talking about acknowledgement of socio-economic inequality on a national scale, as well as many other fundamentally anti-establishment notions. Sanders may be a bullshitter, but his track record seems to imply he is genuine. I can't help but feel the US needs Bernie so very much.

Re: US 2016 Presidential Election
I've heard that quite a bit, but I'm not convinced. I think he's full of it. I may just be jaded on US politics, though. I don't trust either of the main parties.

Re: US 2016 Presidential Election
Seems like Clinton won the Democratic nomination, but not 100% finalised yet.
I hear if Sanders loses, he will run as independent. Good for him.

Re: US 2016 Presidential Election
I'd be happy if a party other than the Democrats or Republicans actually won an election. Hell, I'd be happy if they broke 20% of the vote. Even if the person that did it was someone I didn't much like. The pain of a terrible president would be worth the chance to move beyond a 2-party system. Too bad we can't pull something like Iceland with the Pirate Party. I'd love to kick the establishment in the teeth.
