Nope, wasn't even on my radar. I'll have to check it out.

In the same vein, I liked the series Narcos. I mean, it was all a bit Americany (if that is a thing), but the pacing and acting was pretty good. Also watching the sci fi series The 100, which is surprisingly decent.

Shiny watched that. What little I caught seemed pretty meh to me, but I'm seriously picky when it comes to tv and movies.

I attempted to watch Fear the Walking Dead, which if you haven't heard of it is a spinoff of the Walking Dead that's supposed to show the start of the outbreak. omg, terrible. I was bored half to death in the first 5 minutes. The show, at least for the first episode or two, seems entirely to want to set up some sort of family melodrama. Yea, no thanks.

In other news, we watched the new Hitman movie recently. It was predictably meh, but not terrible enough to turn off. Also watched the Pixar movie Inside Out, which was decent. Nothing earth-shattering. Maybe we'll watch a genuinely good movie in the near future so I can sound less dour.

The Revenant - 2/5
Had high hopes for this one, as a survivalist thriller. Unfortunately it was much worse than I thought it could be. The cinematography is ok, but not iconic, and by no means exceptional, though it tries to play itself as a major component of merit with it's permanently snow-ridden scenery. The story is dull, stretched and elementary. It's effectively JUST a revenge story with no other rhetorical of narrative feature, other than outlining how curiously savage and desperate the Fur Trade was. Guy kills son of Guy, and Guy wants to kill Guy. It's predictably linear and unnecessarily long. I'm a stickler for realism, and 20 minutes in, the film suffers a fatal and irrecoverable "i call bullshit" scene. I'm referring to the bear attack on Di Caprio. Aside from the sad glimpses of computer generated animation, the bear attacks Di Caprio, but rather than spend 10 seconds mauling him to death, as a bear would do, in overly dramatic fashion, he throws him across the ground, scratching at him, nibbling at him, over and over, and over, with all manner of growls and roars. The hear even puts his full weight on Di Caprio's head, in a sequence where he's playing dead to try and stop the bear attacking! Bull... shit. If a grizzly bear wanted to kill something as fragile as a human, it would accomplish it in very few seconds with a flurry of rage, clawing and pounding its target to a bludgeoned concussed overwhelming death. The film lost all respect 20 minutes in, because it tried to portray that Di Caprio was the subject of a bear attack, yet miraculously survived with scratches and a broken leg.

From then on, it's just a spectacle of unnecessary gore and suffering. Di Caprio literally seethes with pain, crawling through the rest of the movie. In one stupid scene, he's being chased by natives on horseback, his horse falls down a cliff (with him on it). It dies, he awakes from it without a scratch. He figures he needs to sleep for the night, but without shelter, he cuts the horse open, disembowels it, undresses himself, and climbs inside. In the morning, he wakes up, climbs out, reaches for the clothes he left beside and simply puts them on and walks off. Somehow the clothes as not totally frozen stiff. I would critique the use of the horse as a tent, but, I am so utterly disappointed in humanities ability to cinematic credibility, that it would just sadden me.

It's just full of suffering, yet you feel no sympathy for anyone. Di Caprio's character or background is a non-entity. The antagonist is played by Tom Hardy, who i regards as an overrated, unintelligible and boring actor. Cannot understand what the fuck he's trying to say in his seemingly poor rendition of a slurred Texan accent. He's a Brit. If you want to cast someone as a Texan antagonist in the Hudson Bay Company, don't cast a pretty-boy du-jour Brit.

Legend - 1/5
Long. Boring. Emotionally devoid. Sympathy-void. Another Tom Hardy film, but this time his face is present in ever, single, scene. I need to muster some creativity to write this one, as the above review has somewhat drained me. Trust me, Legend is worse, in that it far more pointless than The Revenant.

Haven't seen either of the movies yet, but I just want to say that the only great Tom Hardy performance I've ever seen was in Mad Max: Fury Road. And he barely even has lines in it - he's a bit of a faux leading man, as the movie is all about Charlize Theron. So yeah...not surprised he was pretty bad in both movies.

I watched a few more movies lately

Spectre (James Bond's latest movie) - meh. Typical James Bond. It was ok but nothing special.
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation - funny how close the Bond and MI movies are. Same thing here, it was ok, but nothing great.
The Man From UNCLE - another spy movie, I'd rank this one slightly above the MI and Bond movies. Decent, but nothing mind blowing.

I watched a few more, but I can't for the life of me remember what they were.

Thought Spectre was pretty shit. Barely a 2/5. Scattered, illogical and ridiculous story, as well as ever more bullshit action sequences. Emotionless blonde supporting actress, that, at some point becomes inexplicably in love with Bond. Shit writing. Cinematic tastelessness at its highest order.

Heh. Sure, I'll go with that. Some of the action scenes were amusing. The acting was passable, but not great. Like all Bond movies, it's completely unbelievable. So we probably agree. You're just more jaded.

I did watch Sicario, which was pretty good, mostly because it was disturbing. Nothing really got resolved, not a whole lot really happened ultimately, but hey, that's pretty much the point of the movie, right? People died. Let's just say I was amused by the dinner table scene toward the end. Pew pew! Go ahead, eat.

Oh, I did watch the Martian. It was a bit Hollywood, but still a decent movie.

I really want to see Deadpool. If I weren't on crutches, I probably would've gone to see it opening weekend. It's probably retarded, but I know it's full of vulgarity, death and inappropriate humor, which sounds like a great thing when paired with some beer and a burger.

The thing with the recent James Bond movies is that they are just so serious. If I wanted to see a Jason Bourne movie, I'd go do that. But when I see a James Bond movie, I want to see crazy gadgets and outrageous and over-the-top scenes. Not parkour and extended gunfights. Why don't these people get it?

It doesn't have to be as silly as the Roger Moore years (Moonraker etc), but the later Connery movies and the Brosnan ones did it pretty well. Anything with Daniel Craig was just....Y SO SERIOUS? Having said that, Casino Royale wasn't a bad movie.

That looks...bizarre. I'll have a look at it. :)

Someone gave me a Scorcese retrospective which included some of his movies, like The Aviator. I didn't actually like it though...I think youn Dicaprio lacked the weight (figuratively and literally) to carry the movie properly. I thought the pacing was off too.

Hm, never watched it. Not much of an interest, to be honest. If you haven't seen it, Blood Diamond wasn't terrible. That's another diCaprio. That poor guy got so screwed over by his role in Titanic. Glad he's managed to break out.

Not a movie, but I started watching the tv series The Expanse last night. I think I've watched the first 3 episodes. It's interesting thus far. It's set in the future where Earth, Mars and the asteroid belt are locked in a cold war that's starting to warm up. I'd read a lot of very positive reviews, so I decided to check it out. It also got high marks for realistic physics, though low gravity on Ceres sure looks a hell of a lot like Earth gravity.

We watched Deadpool in the theaters this last weekend. It was pretty good, actually. Parts were typical hollywood stupid, but there was so much really great stuff that it made up for some of the stupid parts. Parts of it are just insanely hilarious, especially fourth wall breaking making fun of their own studio and lore kinda stuff.
