Indeed, it looks promising and it might be one of those rare movie tie-ins that doesn't equal to colossal suck.

Mm interesting indeed.

Although I have to say that, after loving Arkham Asylum, I tried Arkham City and just didn't really get into it. I stopped playing not too far in. I dunno, just didn't click with me, but I hope it doesn't mean the entire genre is now lost on me. :P

I played Arkham City. It wasn't bad, imo, but I don't like trekking back and forth across the same cityscape the entire time. I much prefer things to change up... like Arkham Asylum you moved from area to area, ditto with Dishonored. GTA works because you moved to new islands. Arkham City was just too cramped and repetitive, imo.

I don't know if you ever got around to playing this, but I fully completed it and it was great!

There were a few issues overall. It just felt like one of those games where the sequel will be better. It's basically Assassins Creed and Arkham series all mashed up in to one; but the idea of the hierachy of orcs was very interesting. I'll keep this brief though, and moderately spoiler free.

The Great
Controls
Combat
Level up vs Content timing (I.E. You're not wasting XP before you're even halfway through the game.)

The Good
Story is interesting enough though not killer
Graphics 7/10
Amount of side missions (Hunting etc.)
Orc Army hierachy

The Bad
Not enough detail in what happens when you command one orc to interact with another
Exteremly repetative side missions
Sometimes you'd do something before you were supposed to, then get explained how to do it later on in the game.
Not enough places to explore. Needed something like the Dungeons in assassins with how small the map is.

All of that being said, given the the average UK price of a console game is now £50 ($78.80), if you can find it for £30 ($47.28) grab it. I do understand though that your games are going to be way cheaper, but it gives you an idea of the saving you're looking for.

Yea, I read the reviews and I'll get it once it's pretty cheap. :P I'm starting to sound like Ox, I think. Anyway, thanks for the quick review.

I might borrow this one. Was going to buy it with the Xbone, glad I didn't, watched Niall play it and the story was a load of rubbish (thinking of the ending here) and the AI/different bosses with different traits basically becomes pointless after you get a couple of levels because everything dies too quickly. Might not even bother with borrowing it now...

Assuming you meant borrow it of me (Which is fine, as you're on of the few people in the world that I trust with my games) then yeah that's fine - and it depends. The fights tend to get "hard" when you're busy dealing with one or two asshole commanders that have say, resistance to finishers, ranged and stealth, with then your fight accidentally stumbles in to 3 more of them and in dealing with that you stumble upon a warchief and his guards; before you know it you're being bum rushed.

Then again, you can just run away - but that's not a challenge I like to see if I can make it through the fight. That's really irritating when you die on the last champion though! I just built my character to regenrate health upon deliverying specific and easy enough to execute combos and it almost became turn based! As in, I'd do some damage for a while, then heal, rince and repeat.

I really enjoyed the idea of runes, but without a real online mode they too become pointless after a while because there's no incentive to trade - and once you've figured out how to 'farm' level 25 runes you can become O.P. although that's still toward the end of the game.

Post Re: Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
I picked this game up and have been playing it. I'm still on the main campaign... the one I bought came with all the DLC, but they're separate options from the menu. I'm ok with that.

The game is fairly fun. It's tough at first, but after you unlock a couple upgrades, and especially power levels, it starts to become pretty easy. It does get a bit repetitive, but that's never stopped me from enjoying a game. I'm still amused by how absolutely brutal the game can be. You have the option to 'brutalize' orcs with an unlock, which is basically just an attack from stealth. Any nearby Orcs have a chance of panicking and running away when you brutalize someone. But man, it really is brutal. Here's a vid with some of it.

At any rate, I've cleared most of the missions and whatnot in the first area of the map. I suspect I'll be transitioning to another area shortly, since I still have a bunch of locked powers that get unlocked through game play. We'll see. If not, the repetition issues will just get worse.

Overall, the game is ok. There was a lot of potential, but it's a bit too repetitive. I'd love to see a sequel to the game with some of the repetition fixed. I'd also like to see a larger zone and more forms of transport. Being able to ride horses, great eagles and stuff would be great. So would a huge playable area to include Gondor, Rohan, and some of the other areas of Middle Earth. It doesn't need to cover the whole world, but beyond the blasted hellscape of Mordor would be nice.

Lol @ those takedowns. Some of them are pretty worrying. It's like....you can stop stabbing him now man, he's dead already. :D

I've heard good things about this game's gameplay, so not surprised to hear you're enjoying it. Maybe I'll pick it up at a deep deep discount sale. ;)

I was correct, by the way, I did transition to a new area. It's still in Mordor, but the new area has a lot of trees and green and stuff, as opposed to totally denuded. It's still pretty easy though. Occasionally I'll go in a stronghold and just start killing. Once they hit the stronghold alarm, bad guys just keep coming forever (unless you manage to hide from them). That can be really fun.

Well, you do manage to get this power that makes the bad guys fight on your side (brand). You have to get some hit streaks to charge it up, then pop it (twice), and rinse/repeat. So within a few minutes I have an army of Orcs fighting on my side. Add a captain or warlord to that mix and it gets really vicious.

Anyway, I'm nearing the end. I've completed a lot of the optional side stuff at this time. I expect I'll finish the main campaign this weekend, at which point I'll start to dive into the DLC.

Does the power stack? Can you actually get an army big enough to rival the endless enemy hordes?

Speaking of endless hordes, how is Orcs Must Die 2 going? It's such a great game, I think it must be a lot of fun in coop (I only played it in SP). I generally don't like tower defense games, but Orcs Must Die makes it so much fucking fun.

Shiny and I beat the levels, though we had to dial it back to easy mode to get past crush. We haven't really played it much since. Most of the time, we'd rather play The Division. :p

Regarding the Orcs, yea, you can keep recruiting the Orcs indefinitely. Assuming you can stay alive long enough, you can absolutely get a huge group going, though I suspect they start dying. I never have as many guys going as I would think I should. One of the interesting things you can do is recruit people and then run away. When you go to new areas, some Orcs will show as on your side already... presumably because you recruited them previously. If you recruited a captain (or a warlord) they come with a whole retinue of Orcs that all fight on your side.
