muscle regrowth
This is amazing. http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2011/11 ... ne-musclesBasically they're using big bladder cells to trick human stem cells to rebuild massively damaged muscles. It rebuilds the muscle as well as the supporting blood vessels and nerves. In-freaking-sane. It was a clinical trial 4 years ago regrowing the tip of a finger and now it's being used on people and regrowing sections of muscle where 60-70% was lost. This is all on soldiers for now, of course. Supposedly in 2 years it'll be available in the civilian world. Absolutely amazing. And incredibly fast movement from tests to actual being used.

Re: muscle regrowth
That's amazing. The beginning of clinical immortality? Let's fucking hope so, cause the idea that I may only have 50 more years to go isn't exactly endearing to me. Goddamn soldiers hogging all my muscle replacements though!

Re: muscle regrowth
lol, I was gonna say, we replace bones and hearts regularly. The only thing that's not replaceable right now is your brain. And my penis, of course, but that's a different story. They keep trying to replicate it and the gods say NAY!

Re: muscle regrowth
Yea but the people who have replaced hearts need to eat super expensive pills for the rest of their lives. And there are tons of things you aren't allowed to do. A prison inside your own body.

Re: muscle regrowth
I'd rather have a new heart with restrictions than die of a bad heart though! And lol @ Satis' penis. Anyway, I know it's only (partially) regrowing muscle mass but this is clearly the first step towards a larger use of this technique. If you can trick cells into rebuilding muscle mass, it's only a matter of time before you can get them to 'build' hearts, organs and bones that are completely compatible with your body (ie, body-own). But yeah brain is a bit of a bummer. Still, if we figure out how to work the connections of the brain we could transport that into a computer-like device that can be replaced if it starts to wear out. In due time.
