Right, In the coming months my pay should be significantly higher than recently. This doesn't make me mega rich or anything - but I want to start saving for a decent speaker system for my PC. The room is approximately 14ft accross and 16ft long (4.26 x4.87 metres), but basically whenever we have a party we usually have the main room for lighter/random music, the kitchen for a talking area and my bedroom for the metal heads.
So in short, I need a system with a good bit of punch - which means I'd rather have a good 5.1 surround sound, than a mediocre 7.1 system.
I guess the best way I can describe it, is I need it to be loud enough that you can't hear each other talk, with a nice bass that doesn't completely kill off the sound. Price isn't really an issue, as I'm gonna be saving up for it - but as the system will likely be subject to fools with drinks, I don't need to go over kill on the price. The set I have now cost me £40 ten years ago, and it's great quality - but the speakers have finally started to die.
I'm open to all suggestions
p.s. my Mobo doesn't have optical audio, so if it requires optical audio it'd be better if it has a sound card with it. I don't really know where to start, I'm not sure what Wattage this system is...
EDIT:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Trust-4000P-Hom ... B000185AOMThat's my system (or very very very similar) and it's 22w. So I guess anything a bit higher [Better, not sure if higher or lower is better in speakers] than that... *Starts digging* I don't even know what kind of brands are good!
This seems quite good, reasonably priced - but does the fact it's tailored for gaming mean it won't give out optimum music performance? *bleh*

These seem nice too
