Re: MoW: Assault Squad
Good game from me and Satis yesterday, playing the first German mission (Caen outskirts?). Satis was wondering if we were even playing on normal as things went so well, but then we ran into 2 lines of like 3-4 heavy AT guns and artillery behind them. Not that it mattered, since we'd secured the first two lines relatively easily and then established armor dominance with a veteran tiger, stug, some AT guns and captured tanks. And then we rolled in the Sturmtigers for the final lines. Man those things are nigh invulnerable. They take heavy AT gun fire like nothing, shrug off most artillery...my sturmtiger actually got hit in the engine, then got fucked up when the engine blew...but I repaired it. Then I rolled it into enemy territory, where it would withstand an insane barrage from all sides while being unable to move or repair (tracks damaged, rest still intact though). In the end its armor finally was penetrated and it blew up. Sniff. Starring roles for my veteran tiger and satis' stug. I swear, the veteran tiger stopped the entire final counter on his own. 4-5 tanks, not a scratch on it. During the entire game it prolly fragged about 15 tanks. Epic. Also had to refuel it twice (!), like completely. Those things aren't exactly very fuel-efficient. Oh and I waste like 5 goliaths before I gave up on them and did things the normal way. Took some pics

Re: MoW: Assault Squad
Hands-on with upcoming MoW: AS DLC. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/06 ... f-war-dlc/Two new skirmish maps, featuring a 30-minute defense against ever-stronger assault waves. I like the idea and I'm looking forward to it, but I hope there'll be more than 2 maps in the eventual DLC if it costs 5€. I'll prolly get it regardless though.

Re: MoW: Assault Squad
Is that a hope or knowledge about 5 maps? I guess 2maps would be worth $5.... though it's kinda on the edge there. 5 maps for 5 bucks, no problem.
BTW, had a good game with Ox yesterday. Fun as always.

Re: MoW: Assault Squad
another great game with Ox today, doing Market Garden. Ox was a bit tired and had some sort of tractor fetish. He tried going for the first flag with a tractor, but they anti-tank grenaded it. He then capped the last flag with a tractor, though the driver failed to live to appreciate it.

Re: MoW: Assault Squad
good game today guys. Had a lot of fun. I most just held the left flank from counter-attacks and whatnot, plus my infantry charge on the final flag. That ended up not being such a difficult feat, thanks to the rest of you pretty much cleaning the area out ahead of time. I only got a screenshot of the final score, I'm afraid, but there weren't any tractor charges, so meh.

Re: MoW: Assault Squad
Admirable score Satis wow @ mine and ox's AT score Twas a very good game. I didn't play well. Kind of getting more and more detached from games lately, so I am getting a tad rusty. I noticed the patch going in just before we started playing. They changed the weapon images and sounds which i noticed and thought they were very cool. Throughout the game I also witnessed some pretty cool vehicle engagaments. Shit blowing up getting one-shotted Always nice to see. I reckon this implies a direct hit on the ammo storage unit. I remember Peltz and I advancing on the bridge, each with a tank. I was using a captured Pz IV and he was using some kind of Brit medium tank. He was rolling up fairly confidently and I tried to keep up cos there was enemy armor up ahead, maybe a Pz IV. My Pz IV had better armour, so I wanted to draw fire. It was too late. The enemy tank had spotted P's tank and one-shotted it. To be fair, it was medium range so perhaps we should have been a bit more careful. I think i returned fire (2 shots) before pulling back and taking damage myself. I think there is an art to using tanks. Because they are truly effective units, but used improperly, they are extremely vulnerable. I haven't figured out how to use them yet. I try to keep them back and strike when I need to gain ground or take out some armour. But i often end up losing them when I hold ground and enemy tanks attack. Oh, and I was kind of using my infantry alot more this game. Which includes taking losses of course, but all a result of heroic actions. Like the 2 commandos trying to work their way across the bridge, lobbing grenades behind cover taking heavy fire. Or the SAS squad diving into the trench, drawing AT gun fire from very close range.

Re: MoW: Assault Squad
That was one of the cheaper tanks, It had dual 20mm AA guns i think, atleast i looted all the 20mm stuff from the broken vehicles and then lost all of it . I played like an elephant in a jewelry store. Still having some difficulties with landscape as my sniper ended up on a lowground and not being able to snipe effectivly. My one rambo accompanied Satis' forces to take out that AT gun and he ended up offing the crew and satis took it out entirely. He died soon after, rip . After the map was done and most of you left we had one final joke and my 2 man team with ox calling in an airstrike and me rushing my men into it. One of the dudes took like 30 meter jump and he god damn lived, perhaps 2% of health but he lived.

Re: MoW: Assault Squad
lol, it was fun. Don't worry Peltz, you'll get the hang of it. There's quite a learning curve at first, I must admit. I'm playing better, but I'm still not as good as Derf and Ox most of the time. Though I must say that Ox is HORRIBLE with vehicles.

Re: MoW: Assault Squad
I'm mostly horrible at using them without actually driving them into AT fire. But yeah, good game everyone. i had a lot of fun seeing you guys all around me, doing little things (like peltz repairing a stug and driving it up to support my right flank). And seeing Derf getting swamped by armor in the center. Thing with the Brits is, even though they aren't the strongest nation, their artillery is pretty goddamn OP. Otoh, these missions are pretty much designed with the idea of having artillery in mind, so storming it without arti would be pretty damn suicidal. Just played a Soviet game with Satis, which we rolled up almost easily. Pretty uneventful in general, except for Satis beasting the massive mortar (destroying all enemy positions, and even taking out several tanks) and a Panther (the fuck) actually rolling up my flank and taking almost everything I had out. I was shooting it with 2 AT guns and a captured German tank destroyer for almost 2 minutes while it was distracted by some infantry, and it wouldn't even fucking dent. Then it shot my two AT guns to shit, and fragged the tank. Satis used his mortar on it, which took out a track, so I tried to flank it with a captured Panzer III which hit it three times and then got, you guessed it, blown to shit. In the end I took it out with an IS-2...122mm gun did the trick. After that we pretty much rolled over everyone and I dicked around a bit with the soviet rocket truck. I repaired the panther, and took some war porn pics of it and the IS-2 next to each other with infantry on them.

Re: MoW: Assault Squad
Zis-2/3 AT guns are not really a match for a Panther unless at really close range. Pz III is definitely not a match either. IS2 is fucking overkill That thing is almost unstoppable. In other news, last night I dicked around with a mod similar to DCG (Dynamic Campaign Generator) called Strategic Campaign Simulator (or similar). It's essentially a mod for getting into SP skirmishes on MP maps. No reinforcements and all units unlocked. Meaning you can get access to ALL the countless, random and interesting units of the game. It's not bad. It's still being developed so it's not uber polished. However the developer is VERY good and the mod feels more polished than DCG. It doesn't have the same "campaign" element to it, but SP skirmishes are great fun none the less. The unit names are in Italian, which isn't a massive problem for me but is a tad annoying. My dream of a SP campaign mode (which we'll likely never see) would contain the following features: - Full unlocked unit roster and reinforcement before and after missions - Hospital system where some casualties from missions won will heal and become available again over time - Possible to manage ranks according to skill points won and vacancies - Medals awarded for acts of bravery. Disabling tanks, taking out shit loads of enemy, etc. - A small limited reinforcement pool for each mission. Bonus points given if not used - Can give "nicknames" to soldiers like: Sergei "Molotov" Sevryugin - Can create loadouts and assign to soldiers - Missions are a mix of defensive, offensive, and hold-the-line type missions - You get a preparation phase at the start of a mission to choose a field HQ and build defenses - If you lose the field HQ, you lose the mission - The field HQ can be a legit objective for the enemy - The campaign map is turn based and similar to DCG, only resembling more an actual landscape - At the end of a mission, you have a choice to either carry out a follow up attack on the next territory, or setup defenses to brace for an enemy counter. That'll do for now

Re: MoW: Assault Squad
So basically a cross between X-Com/Jagged Alliance and MoW? Sounds good. That mod sounds interesting, and I'm sure I'll get used to the Italian names. Gonna wait until it's fully developed first though.

Great game today Oxy. We were about even on infantry kills, but you definitely beat me on vehicle kills (like usual). On the other hand, you had some serious deaths, too. We pretty much pwnt the map, though.
