There's probably a difference in that you'd be able to tell off people beneath you, but in general I don't imagine it's very different from any other major corporation or government agency.

Hehe... regarding officers....

most officers (especially 2nd lieutenants), are fuckwits. They think they know everything, but in reality, they know absolutely nothing. I've seen a lieutenant get chewed out by an NCO that they technically outranked. But the NCO probably had 10 years in and the lieutenant was fresh out of OCS. The better officers realize that the NCOs are the ones they need to rely on to run the soldiers, so they defer to them. Though the officers are technically over the NCOs, the reality is that there's something of a power-sharing going on.

Unless you're an idiot officer, in which case you try to lord it over one and end up getting thrown under the bus constantly.
