Post Recently read books
I know we have this topic somewhere but I'm lazy. I recently read a few books which I thought I would post.

The reliable wife - dunno very transparent.

The little bee - very sad - it end somewhat what you would expect but not exactly as you would expect. Maybe this just got me because it is about right.

Currently reading book 6 in the Temerraire Series. I love this series but... this book does not have the OMG I must read this book NOW that the previous 5 books had.

Read the latest sorta Twilight book - The short life of Bree Tanner I think... It seemed a good side story for the other side but very brief - seemed almost just a way to milk a few more bucks.

I've read all the Sooki Stackhouse books that are out but I am looking forward to a new release on August 3rd. :) These are like crack for fluff books.

I've read several more but the names have left me at the moment. That is one of the downfalls of borrowing books from people - I am bad with names so I don't remember what I have read.

I haven't bothered with that Bree Tanner book yet simply for that very reason you say; it looks like another way just to squeeze a few dollars out of people. I didn't even remember who Bree Tanner was until I did some research on it.

I've recently gotten into the Song of Ice and Fire books; so far only read the first in the series but I've got the next 3 ordered. Absolutely love them and can't wait for those to turn up. For anyone interested the first book is "A Game of Thrones" by George R R Martin.

Shiny and I read the full series so far... awesome books. Totally freakin' awesome. Crazy dark and evil. Unfortunately, he's been writing the next book for like 6 years now or something. I think we've both given up on him ever completing the series.

Yeah I heard about that with the new book taking forever. Luckily to keep you busy in the meantime they're doing a TV series of it that sticks to the original book, due for release this time next year. There's also an RTS and RPG game in the making apparently.

Yea, I saw that. If they're really going to stick to the darkness of the source material, it'll be freaking awesome. I'm not going to talk about the story since I don't know how far you are into it (I can't recall what happens and doesn't happen in the first book), but man, it's so twisted. No heroes, no heroines, just lots of darkness, ambiguity and death. Lots of death. Lots and lots of death. :)

Let us hope they don't screw it up like The Legend of the Seeker Series. I enjoyed the books but man that show goes so so so far away from the books it makes me mad every time I watch any of it. I end up spending like half the show cussing at the major plot differences. pfft. If you can't make it right then leave it alone. Sad thing is I think the author is involved in that project. :?

Hey, the author of the song of fire and ice series looks like Long John Silver

Rofl interesting pictures.

I found a leaked copy of the script from the pilot episode which is already finished, it sticks exactly to the book so it should be good. If I recall correctly it pretty much covers up to the part where Bran finds the twins with their evil plot and...er... "falls".

Just started reading something called "Feed" as well by Mira Grant; it's a zombie book but based in the future where blogging has become a viable form of news along with tv and radio. Quite interesting concepts so far too, not just the typical zombie stereotypes but very heavily based on them. Hoping it continues as it has started as I'm really enjoying it.

I read (among other things) Greg Bear's 'Blood Music'. I was reminded of it by my little rant on singularity in another thread.

Satis, I'm convinced you'd love it. :)

I read "the forge of god" by the same author, quite a few years ago. Very good book, I think. I may check out Blood Music when I get a chance.

Currently I'm reading C++, A Beginner's Guide... on page 381 of 522 or so. I plan on following that up with C++ from the ground up, then C++ for game programmers. I have probably several months of extreme excitement ahead of me. To be fair, I know 90% of the current book I'm reading, and am just reading it to fill in those gaps and refresh my knowledge. The ground up one should cover much of the same material, so should be really fast. We shall see. :)

Haha, once you finish it you can expect us to pitch you ideas for games. :P ;)

And cool, I'm definitely gonna read some other of Bear's novels after digging Blood Music so much. I actually finished the book on the same day I started it (with doing other stuff in between), captivated me so much.

Currently reading Philip Zimbardo's 'The Lucifer Effect: Understanding How Good People Turn Evil'.

http://www.amazon.com/Lucifer-Effect-Un ... 1400064112

Zimbardo was the author of the in the 70's, and the book expands on the power of situational and systemic forces forcing individuals in situations where they lose control. Also covers genocides and (among other things) Abu Ghraib. It's pretty great.

I rarely read books like that. So many things I want to read, so little time.

For the record, "The forge of god" is a prequel to another book called "Anvil of Stars". I don't know what order you would want to read them in. Prequels are confusing like that. :p I'd probably read "forge of god" first. That book leads up to the culminating event, which is the basis for "Anvil of Stars". *shrug* I'm not going to give anything more away, I promise.
