Re: Music
We have lyrics. And since we're such a strange country, we have them in several languages

Re: Music
Sorry Peltz, the music is pretty lame/predictable national anthem type music. The lyrics aren't much better. No offense... I think 95% of countries should rewrite their national anthems to be more interesting. Looked up the Belgian national anthem lyrics... yea, kinda lame too. Ah well, what can we do? We should create our own country and have a theme song of pure awesome. I would want my country (Satisland) to have the bloodiest, goriest, bawdiest lyrics. And put them to Vivaldi's Four Seasons (Winter). Though I'm not sure if it'd be possible to actually sing along with Vivaldi.

Re: Music
yeah, our country doesn't have the national anthem sung in most places because it has French, Dutch and German lyrics and just singing one of them is bound to offend some people. The funny thing is, if you'd ask anyone on the street to sing the national anthem (in whichever language) here you'd get very lucky if you found someone who can sing more than 4 consecutive lines without making a mistake. I can't get further than 2 lines myself. It's hilarious.

Re: Music
I can sing our national anthem. Probably know it since we started singing it when we watched WK94 on tv. Ah the good old days when we actually managed to qualify for the world cup.

Re: Music
I don't think the Estonian anthem is all that bad. You can make out a distinctive melody, which at least is something compared to most others.

Re: Music
There's no music... It's like Boyz 2 Men got together and decided to write a national anthem. I dunno, it's actually not too horrible, but being a capella isn't, imo, all that great. Did some more searching to make sure that wasn't just a special version, and I did actually find versions with music (and no lyrics). What's up with that? The music is pretty generic, imo.
Maybe I'm just a non-national-anthem-appreciating-bastard.

Re: Music
heh...that would explain why I didn't dig the Finnish one all that much. What's with that? There must be a historical reason for that.

Re: Music
There is but i don't know that much about it. I do know that there was another song that could have been the national anthem but that song makes even old men cry and it has well our national scars attached to it. Overall i think the idea of national anthem is that anyone should be able to sing it and the Italian one probably fails horribly regarding this. Oh and we copied the music from the finns. . Words are our own though.

ahh, haha. Oh well, it's about time the Finns gave something back to the rest of the world. Or something.

Re: Music
I hear some copy & paste action going on between the Finns and Estonians.
Well, the Italian anthem is a certain talking point amongst Italians. There is a separate version (just different words) which isn't too bad but it never caught on. But I like the current one. Yes, it's out dated and non reflective of modern Italy, but I think that's part of what makes it great (or at least why I find it great). References to Scipio and glorious death provoke a sense of fantasy and zeal. It's entertaining, and for that reason all the soccer players and fans sing it at the top of their voice with pride.

Re: Music
On the US anthem, I find it distinguishable. But like God Save The Queen, far too simplistic and slow. After that, it brings to mind all sorts of negative associations to nationalism, imperialism, corporation, capitalism, and all round dodgy foreign policy and office. I like the German one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfzZdSxk ... re=related
