Re: Good films..
Did I mention I saw the Coen brothers' "A Serious Man"? Very good movie, but you need to be in the mood for it. It's got that typical strangely compelling Coen charm. Basically it's parable of the downfall of a Jewish maths professor in 1960's US suburbia - parallels with the biblical figure of Job.

Really? I kinda liked it. Maybe it's because I was lolling at how he called people racist names.

Re: Good films..
Yeah really. Most of the acting by other characters was cringeworthy. Eastwoods was overdone. The scenes were either entirely predictable, bullshit or just plain wrong. E.g. When Eastwood faced those black kids in his truck. Suddenly striking friendship with an entire family. His M1 sounding like a fucking cap-gun.

Re: Good films..
I saw about half of '2001: A Space Odyssey' (1968) maybe a month ago. Honestly I was blown away. Really amazing film (at least the first half). Three things stand out as epic: a) The visuals. b) Futuristic styles feel totally nailed even 40 years on. c) The way it's not spoon feeding you a story.

Re: Good films..
2001 is an awesome movie. 2010 is also awesome. Definitely you need to watch them. The only thing to be wary of is that they're LONG and there are large portions that have very little going on. People with short attention spans will get very bored.

Re: Good films..
I honestly didn't like 2001 that much...and I'm a SF junkie. I'm not sure. I liked the images + music and the vision of the future, but when it descended into quantum philisophy at the end I kind of lost it. Let's just put it down to my puny brain not being capable of understanding it.

Re: Good films..
Shiny and I watched a few movies this weekend The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1054606/4 stars out of 5 stars Pretty freakin' crazy, but a good movie. I'd definitely recommend watching it. Alice in Wonderland: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1014759/3 out of 5 stars Up until toward the very end, this movie would have been 4 out of 5 stars. The end was retarded. I'm very disappointed in Tim Burton in being responsible for that. Otherwise, the movie is quite good. I wish they would fix the end... it would be a great movie then. Kick-Ass: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1250777/3.5 out of 5 stars This was pretty good, but not like the best thing since sliced bread or anything. There were some pretty serious problems with it, but overall it was a lot of fun. The 9 year old girl or whatever killing people just adds a special something. Clash of the Titans: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0800320/2.5 out of 5 stars It's just an action movie with over the top special effects. If you know the story of the original clash of the titans, or presumably the original greek legend, you know the story. The acting wasn't anything special, though it wasn't horrible. A decent action movie, just don't expect any depth.

Re: Good films..
I enjoyed "Imaginarium" as well, very Tim Burton-feeling without being Tim Burton. Gets slightly confusing if you stop paying attention for the shortest amount of time but I really like the way they managed to hide the fact that Heath Ledger died halfway through production. Actually works surprisingly well.
Alice I loved, yet to see Kickass or Clash, gonna go see them with a mate soon though, we're having a cinema day with Kickass, Clash, How to Train your Dragon and Prince of Persia on the cards (if they're all showing at the same day anyway)
