Mm maybe it'll need some time. These types of games usually get super massive mods or TC's, as you well know. But I suppose they take a while to actually make. :)

I completed the single player. This isn't too bad a game, really. I didn't run into any game breaking bugs. No CTDs, no crashes at all, no weird errors. The worst thing I had happen was the mission text going MIA once. So, stability-wise, it's not so bad.

The campaign does seem strangely short and narrow in focus. It's not much of a story... push Chinese off the island so you can return it to the Russians. *shrug* The entire campaign is just fighting battle after battle until the Chinese are defeated. There's no pushing back and forth or unexpected twists, just victory after victory until the end. It seemed a bit odd.

In the original game, you may recall playing as various people.... from infantry to special forces to tank commander. In this game, you're infantry and SF the whole time... in fact, I never once drove a tank or APC. That seems a bit weird too. I did pilot a helicopter, but that was more incidental and wasn't a part of the campaign. Still, the campaign isn't really short, per se, just strangely limited.

Online gameplay has deathmatch, team deathmatch and coop. Coop is 4 person (one squad) and is pretty fun. The AI isn't horrible, by any means, but working together as a team is definitely fun. You can play the entire campaign in coop, plus there are a bunch of single missions available as well. You can also make maps, but I haven't played with that side of the game yet.

At any rate, it's not bad. I'm not sure I'd pay full price for it, but since I picked it up pretty cheap, I think it was well worth it. I wish some of you guys had it so we could coop. It'd be fun to cook up some custom maps and play them together.

I think Derf owns it, or maybe that was ARMA II? Also, I think ARMA II is OF2's more ambitious big brother (but was also suffering from major bugs on release) where you can controls vehicles and choppers etc. too. Even tractors and motorcycles.

4-man co-op...mm not sure. If you guys can whip up a 2-3 man team amongst yourselves I'd be happy to jump in, but I won't commit myself just yet. Horribly unfamiliar with team-based realistic shooters too. :)

Its easy, when you see someone shooting at me, just position yourself between us :D

lol. It's not so hard. Running and gunning only works at close range (where you pretty much have to shoot from the hip or get pwnt). Long distance, you go to a knee and try to adjust for range. Bullets drop, so you have to aim above, depending on the distance. It's pretty unforgiving for hits... it's possible to get hit and not killed, but it's equally easy to pop your head up, get unlucky, and take a bullet to the face for insta-death.

On normal, every checkpoint, everyone gets healed up / resurrected, so it wouldn't be so bad even if you get killed. Just hang out for a few minutes until the next checkpoint. Higher difficulties aren't so forgiving. What's cool is that stuff like suppressing fire actually works.. if you've got a lot of baddies shooting at you and being a pain in the ass, flip your rifle to full auto and start wailing at them. They'll duck down and in some cases quit firing entirely while they put their heads down trying not to get shot. That allows for some good fire and maneuver tactics, where two people will put down a bunch of fire while the other two take up a more advantageous position.

Anyway, no pressure obviously, but if you see the game available at a decent price, it may be worth a try.

Wel I'd let Derf take point, clearly.

And if it's on another 7-8 € sale and we're all in, then sure, I'll get it too. Does ARMA II have a similar co-op campaign? I would think so. It would even 1000 times cooler to fight and drive/fly around our team, right? Shotgun!

I used to play opflash1 and arma1 MP coop vs AI. It was pretty fun actually, probably among the best MP fun i've had. The community back then was pretty laid back yet sensible, so it was very easy to pick a very long mission and have a great time.

I used to like taking point (of course), choosing the rally points and routes based on map intel.

Fights were actually quite hard. So much so that you wanted to avoid them if possible. Combat beyond 500m was also ill advised unless the situation was very favourable. hitting targets at long range with wind and all sorts of crazy ballistics shit meant that on worst conditions it would take you half a mag to understand where the shots are landing.

Arma2 was just plain broken and still is. I reinstall and apply recent patches every now and then, but it's uberfucked every time.

Opflash2 i skipped because frankly it looked too much like CoD from the trailers. Ie, too much fullauto form the shoulder and landing hits. I'd be happy to see some longer footage of coop play however, especially for longer missions. I used to love jumping into a public lobby, speaking for 5 minutes about roles and strategy, then taking our time to complete the mission to our best ability, with no gung ho BS.

I'll see if I can grab some video of some coop play. It's not a 100% realistic game, but I think it's much closer to OpFlash 1 than to CoD. I'll post stuff up when I can.
