Do you read books at all, Derf? If you do, you should definitely read The Postman novel. It's freakin' awesome. Same general plot as the movie, but way better done. I'm also into those post-apocalyptic survival stories.

Guess Ox was right. Fair enough, I know more people that don't read then that do. Oh well, who am I to judge. I just spent over 2 years reading a 700 page book.

Lol. Bunch of illiterate 21st centuy boys!! ;) To be fair though, most of my time reading takes place on the train when commuting. I imagine it wouldn't be quite as much if I didn't commute. Otoh, I'd probably have more spare time in the evenings at home so I dunno.

I saw U-571 on TV on friday. All in all i would say its a good sub movie and worth watching for war movie fans.

We watched Boondock Saints 2 yesterday.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1300851/

Some of the dialog at the beginning of the movie is so bad we almost stopped it. Turns out it wasn't quite THAT bad as the movie continued... but it was pretty bad. I definitely wouldn't recommend it. I'm amazed it's gotten 7.1 stars on IMDB. I mean damn....

Well, Boondock Saints was pretty bad. A fun movie, but bad. I'll probably see 2 some time in the future, but maybe I'll just wait until it's on telly.

I liked the first movie, actually. Not to say it's some sort of masterpiece or anything, but it was pretty decent, in my opinion. The second was pretty horrible in comparison.

Watched Green Zone last night at the movies and it was fairly cruddy.

Wasn't expecting anything amazing, but essentially it's an action flick that tries to suggest there was never any proof of active WMD programs in Iraq, and that such intelligence sources were manufactured yada yada yada. As if we didn't know that already.

The attempt to address a political agenda in such a piss-weak naive manner is the biggest flaw. That and the fact that 90% of the movie length involves looking at Matt Damons face. I mean, couldn't they address an anti-imperialist message more directly? Is the general audience still so benign to the fact that the USA and other countries like to go on a romp-a-stomp every so often?

Another gripe was the lack of rank and insignia. It was really hard understanding where all the characters stood since there was little no mention of unit / rank. At times for me there were some real "you're-way-out-of-line-soldier" moments, the worst being when the main character (a CWO) interrupted a Cpt during a meeting with another 20 heads to criticise the intelligence directly to a 2 star general. I don't think it goes down like that.

Jade-o-rate... i'm trying to find a reason to give it 2 of 5, but can't. 1 of 5 it is.

having been in the military, movies that flaunt crap that is impossible in the military just pisses me off. Like people stepping outside of rank structure. In the real military, if you do that, it doesn't matter if you're right or not, you're automatically wrong, and everyone up and down the chain of command will take turns ass raping you. Even little things irritate me... dirty/ripped uniforms, wearing headgear indoors (though there are exceptions), not wearing headgear outside (again, some exceptions), mixing and matching uniforms in an unauthorized manner, etc etc. What impresses me is when they get little stuff right.

I probably wouldn't have watched that movie anyway, but thanks for the warning.

I saw Kick Ass in London and it was fucking awesome. Seriously. It looks kinda lame at first, but GOD is it a non-stop, funny and original gore-fest.

Must-see on release. (might be a while outside the UK tho)

Might have to watch that then, been seeing posters around here but not seen anything else on it and considering I only know one actor in it (Nicholas Cage) I was a bit 'hmmmm....' on it. But your recommendation may make me go see it!

Saw Shutter Island a couple of weeks ago. Not a bad movie and seems to be one you'll be mixed on. Me and the other girl who saw it both found it rather boring (her probably coz she spent half the time curled up scared ;)). I thought the actual premise of it was great, including the twist in the story but it was poorly executed. I was so glad when the twist came thinking I could leave in 10 minutes and then it continued for at least another 30!

However Mole absolutely loved every minute of it, despite figuring out the twist about 10 minutes in (that's just him all over hehe) and I must admit that had they simply made it maybe half an hour shorter I would have put this up there as a top film. It's certainly one you need to see again, if only to see what little clues and hints you missed the first time around. I don't think I'd pay to see it again though.
