I was afk for the last 3 days, not that any of you noticed, serving a brittish admiral. The First Sealord was on a courtesy visit in Tallinn to the rehabilitation center for the wounded soldiers (iraq and afghanistan). Largely my job was just driving the car. But it was fun, the entire british personnel was really nice and friendly so things went smoothly. Im glad i was able to contribute.
This time i was assigned to the service of Estonian Navy, otherwise im a member of the Estonian Defence League which is a voluntary (to join but not so voluntary thereafter) homeguard organisation.

Actually I did notice - because you were not on DDO to keep me entertained during the day. I mailed you an item in game too btw so make sure you get it before it disappears.

Did Estonia have soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan? Or are those soldiers British and rehabilitating in Tallin?
Anyway, glad to hear you had fun. To me it all sounds a little icky, all the militarism stuff, but whatever floats your boat I suppose. It's not like you're a member of the KKK or some such.
Did you get paid for the work tho? At least some sort of expenses?

wow, really? You didn't get paid? Our national guard gets called up for stuff like that, but they get (admittedly tiny) paychecks in return. Ah well, as long as you enjoyed it.

That is the case in Estonia as well. But it has to be classified as a study gathering and then it usually involves a large number of people (from hundreds to thousand or more) but these happen about 2 or 3 times a year. Besides when it comes to server british navy, we are always willing to go beyond call of duty, the ties between estonian and brittish navy go way back.
In estonia at the moment is the worlds oldest still floating submarine, which was built surprise surprise in the UK. On tuesday there was a ceremony in the Lennu harbor (which would translate directly as flight harbour) which was used by water landing planes and other such apparatus and where they are restoring old hangars which will be the new home for the sub because time is taking its toll on the sub and it needs to be taken out of the water. And so the worlds oldest floating submarine title will be passed on to the next worthy piece of the worlds history. Anyway the british ambassador gave a speech there and the admirals visit was defenately a crowd pleaser because there is nothing more important than showing that they care.
There are some traditions that are just worth investing in.
