I was like... wtf? An anti-Roman shooting game? Turns out to be a rather interesting time travelling shooter where you kill certain individuals to maintain a line a history.

Romans, yank civil war, WW1 and such.

There's something horrifying yet sexual about engaging in old battles with technology hundreds of years ahead.

yeah, looks hot. If the execution is well it might be one of the most satisfying shooters in a long while. I mean, shottie to the Roman face, how is that NOT awesome?

(And WWI is a vastly underrated arena for a shooter or game)

I would totally dig a modern weapons against history game. I always wondered, how much of a difference would one modern Army squad with modern weapons make in historical battles. Would a couple snipers with .50 caliber Barrett rifles be enough to change the outcome of the US civil war? Or would a single aircraft carrier be enough for England to conquer the world during the 14th century?

Yeah, i think so. But there are exceptions, e.g. battle around 1750, Scots vs English. English had dragoons, cannons and musket, i think the Scots had just highlanders. It ended up something like the Scots losing 50 men and the English losing 500. Basically the scots charged 1 flank behind cover of fog and the English couldn't swivel formation quick enough.

hah...fine....how about 2 campaigns...one where you're with the germanic tribes against the Romans, and the second that's the reverse. That'll keep us both happy.

Okay, i played the demo:

good
- The weapon reload system is pretty fucking cool
- I don't generally appreciate SciFi because it's so damn common, but the theme here is pretty genuine.
- Combat and shooting is generally quite fun. There was something orgasmic about mowing down simulation germans with a bolt action in training mode.
- Bringing up the map makes me smile. Works so well, although I never had to use it.

bad
- Graphics not entirely working yet. E.g. My AA didnt work. I can tell the game is geared to be prettier. Another problem is that the brightness is wrong in some places.
- Reloading the cannon is a bit silly. You can man a cannnon on your own and fire at about 20 rounds a minute just waiting.
- Walls dont seem to offer cover to enemy.

- Perhaps a tad too linear?

Conclusion
- Quite fun. The inevitable mashup of the mechanics means it was always going to be a linear title. Which isn't necessarily bad. I'm ok with linearity so long as the game is fun, and this seems to be the case. I feel it may be a little too linear for my tastes and I can smell a whiff of console in it. I think in the end, to play (buy) this game I would need the graphics to be fixed, the cannon to be fixed, alot of levels, and a price tag no more than £20.

it's gonna be released at full price. Can't play it until I get home, tonight or tomorrow evening. So my judgement awaits...like what i geard from you tho Derfmeister.

ok...so I gave the demo a whirl... a few observations


...ugly textures... wtf. Not that it all looks bad or anything, but damn, wasn't I just ranting about this kinda stuff? Some textures are just washed out and uninteresting.

The first real mission (after the tutorial) began by taking away the ability to move and forcing you to fight a specific way... I found that absolutely and completely irritating. However, after a bit you had freedom, so perhaps that was just for creative purposes. Or something. The game actually got fairly interesting afterward... running around, tearing shit up with time-appropriate weapons. Though I must admit, all the people I wasn't supposed to kill kinda ended up dead.

Anyway, I enjoyed it. This has the potential of being a lot of fun. Of course, it could end up sucking, too, so we'll have to see.

Downloaded the demo yesterday but couldn't bring myself to play it yet (I was too tired when it was finished with downloading). Maybe tonight or tomorow.

When the download started at the blistering speed of 23 KB per second, I cried. It took flight after a minute or 2, but still, I cried and howled at the moon for Satis' insane speeds.
