Haha, you think that's bad taste? I'm going to see Dragonforce in concert at the end of the month...

Them guys sure know how to play guitars...and they're self-confessed nerds (cfr old-school video gaming in the second vid). It's fun.
The older I get, the less I feel the need to listen/watch the standard "waaargh we're all gonna die!" metal, I guess that's the angst ebbing away. Don't get me wrong, I know that most metal bands don't take themselves too seriously...but they rarely let that shine through in their music. So it amounts to the same. In a way, once you lost that rage that drove you on in the early days of your career your music needs to either evolve or stagnate. That's why 40-yr old punkers are usually pathetic (they lost their ideals because they grew up), why rappers tend to decline rapidly after their first two albums (they're no longer in the ghetto and filthy rich), etc.
That's also the reason why I respect Reznor a lot. I don't like everything he's ever done, by any measure. But he never seems to have compromised and just did what he felt he should do. I think he even did the backing vocals on a Tori Amos song or album. Tori Amos is pretty awesome but still...not what you'd expect from someone with Reznor's background, right? And it was his initiative, after hearing her CD and liking it a lot.
There are only a handful of artists I know that make music that, even after 20+ years, still seems to be heartfelt and 'true'.
EDIT: this is the video for the Amos song Trent sings backing/duet vocals on

Weird, I didn't know Trent did backing vocals for that song. Not a big Tori Amos fan, but I've heard the song before.
I'm a big fan of skinny puppy...they've been around since the early 80s. But their sound has changed pretty drastically over the years.
There are few other bands that I like that've lasted more than 10 years.

Have you tried Pandora? I've found a lot of good music via them.
