ah, yes.... accidentally evil. I kinda got sick of all those mercenaries trying to kill me, so I made a short trip to Tenpenny Towers and cleaned the place out. I felt kinda bad... it was night time and I just went from room to room killing everyone in their sleep with a blast of automatic weapons fire to the head. It was freakin' gruesome. And now I'm totally evil. I need to start giving beggars water and all that.
BTW, I got the ghoul mask as well. Have you found the chick with the nuka cola collection yet? I'm in that general area, though I'm considering heading back to the MQ for a bit. I've completed most of my quests at this point.
*spoilers*
Ok...where do I get a pet or companion? Is that part of the MQ and I just haven't progressed far enough?
Also, did you find the Wilkes kid whose family was murdered by ants? If not, ignore the rest of this paragraph. If so, I still have a quest to find him a home, but I have no clue where.

Talk to the boy, he actually gives you a hint. The quest kinda broke on me, i can no longer choose between the rewards, the scientist wont give me the option to choose, just speaks garbage.
Also i closed the vault 101 door behind me, now its closed shut, dunno if thats gonna be a problem.
I found dogmeat, so far the only companion. There is a merc, Jericho, in megaton. He seemes to be an option if you are eval. I couldnt take him along coz, im so good that the halo i give off could be mistaken for a radiation poisoning.

I haven't even seen the boy yet, so no help from my part here guys. I actually never met Dogmeat either...
As for companions in general: you meet a few people along the MQ that can become your companion, but most of them are just...around. I met about (I think) some 10 different possible companions already. Of course, like Peltz says, some of them will only assist you if you have bad/good/neutral karma.
Personally I've had two followers. A freakin' awesome Mr. Gutsy robot ("another glorious day in this man's army!") which I bought for a ton of caps, and then later on my sexah slave Clover. Bought her off slavers. We were quite the duo towards the end with me stunning enemies with my melee pwnz0r and she slicin' and dicin' them with her sword. Then she went MIA, presumed dead. Oh well. She was a slave anyway.
I actually just finished the MQ...and it was frakking cool. No spoilers here, don't worry. I think the way you finish the game will depend on your own decisions and/or abilities anyway, so it might not be the same. Let's just say that I stayed in character and didn' quite choose the hero's path, though. I made a save quite a bit before the end and I have the feeling that I haven't nearly seen everything yet. Some greate aspects of the world I just seem to have completely passed by, and judging by what you guys say a ton of minor quests as well. I was tempted to choose the "explorer" perk at lvl 20 but I think I'll keep that for a future character.
Before finishing the game I found this: a raider encampment with an (unarmed) Behemoth held in some sort of pen. Kewl. The pics are a kid using the f-word and a view from Paradise Falls (slaverland).

I created a new character...I'm not abandoning my first one altogether but this one is more of a "joyride". Basically, I'm dumb and not very personable....but I wreak HAVOC with everything that causes big explosions. And I'm a pretty girl this time, not a fugly freakazoid.
Went to and beyond Megaton...I feel kinda bad about some decisions I've taken so far, though. I mean, I AM playing a mad(wo)man without a conscious but still...I killed the entire Vault security force, the overseer, Butch because he went all jerkoff on me before even getting to the wasteland. In Megaton I shot Lucas Simms (sherrif) in the face for talking crap to me, then i did the same with Leo Stahl in the water processing plant (to get his shit).
Now...all that is still KIND OF ok. But then I blew Moria's head off in Craterside Supply. And her guard's, obviously. That made (and makes) me feel kinda bad. She may be a little dim but she's really nice and well, innocent. The good news is that I could get her entire stock off her corpse, instantly making me rather well-equipped. It seems like this is the case for every merchant in Fallout...if you kill them, you can take their inventory (from their body or from a container to which they carry the key). None of that "oh yeah I have a 1000 items for sale but when you kill me I don't have anything on me" crap of other RPG's.
I rigged the bomb, went to Tenpenny tower, blew up Megaton. Nice explosion. I like to think I killed Moira to spare her the nuclear blast.
I have a feeling I'll be shooting a lot of NPC's in the face the coming days. I already set out three rules for this character:
1) I don't take shit, from anyone. Talk down to me and I WILL kill you...beit with a bullet, by putting a live nade in your inventory or any other way.
2) All muties must die. That includes every ghoul I meet. I'm a nazi like that.
3) If I can make something explode, I will. No, I must.
P.S. you guys mess around with the Rock-it-launcher yet? Because it's pretty damn awesome. I killed a raider who ran away from me by blasting a box of detergent (!) into the back of her head after I ran outta ammo for my regular guns. And then a little bit later I took someone's head off with a friggin basketball. GLORIOUS. VATS is the shit!

lol... I haven't built very many things... I built the rail gun and the dart launcher v2, but haven't even used the dart launcher yet. It looks like they all feed off the big guns skill which this char doesn't have.
So, last night I found Dogmeat. Awesome. I also continued with the main quest some... fought my way through some subways to the museum of science and technology. I also did a bunch of exploring to the southwest. I found another fort down there... I think it was the home base of the talon mercenaries. I ended up killing some named guy there... tough bastard. But the lootage was insane. I swear I spent an hour or more just travelling back and forth looting crap. The fact I wear that armor (due to its abundance) may be part of the problem.
BTW, I took a perk that makes a regulator... I collect bad guys' fingers and trade them in for cash and karma. :p Hopefully I won't be totally evil much longer.
*spoilers sorta*
Ok, a few questions for stuff I didn't figure out yet.
1. To the northwest are some radar towers. I found this ghoul scientist chick (and killer her) and apparently she had control of a nuclear-armed satellite and I now have the launch codes. How do I fire them? And can I fix the radar towers?
2. I found launch codes to some nukes at some fort or other just past those radar towers. There's a door that requires a key, but I never found the key. Any idea how to get it?
I guess that's it for now.

I managed to acquire a second companion yesterday. His name's Charon and he's a ghoul. So now I've got a veritable army marching around the wasteland. I'm currently clearing Evergreen Mills on my way to vault 112.
More piccies

heh...we've been pretty prolific posters over the last 5 years.
I've been pursuing the MQ... I can now wear power armor and got my mitts on some plasma rifles. muhahaha. I also 'found' a map with the location of some vaults on it... I'm really thinking of seeing if I can find some of those.

You actually found (well, 'found') a map with Vault locations? Neat. I downloaded a few from the Vault-Tec main frame in downtown DC. I checked a few of them, like three or so. One was really weird.
*SPOILER*
You can launch the nukes in the radar antennas, yeah. The terminal up in the middle one (of the three installations) allows you to do so...and I did, with my first char. I quickly went up to the dish and saw rockets falling, but I never knew where or what they hit.
As for the fort you mention...would that be Fort Constantine? There's something there...but I have yet to go there (but I do have the keys). There is someone who can give you a quest related to it.
*END SPOILER*
Played some more with my chick who loves huge explosions and shooting people in the face. Man, FUN! At lvl 11 she's got 100 Big guns and 100 explosions, plus two ranks in 'demolitions expert' giving her a 40% damage bonus with explosives. You should see the mayhem she does with grenades and mines. A bottlecap mine does so much damage now that it can blow a Super Mutant Master apart in one go, easily. I found that the leader of the Brotherhood outcasts trades in energy weapons for frag grenades, which keeps my stock updated well. One laser rifle, no matter how crappy, gets you 5 frag grenades. Sweet.
The killing is like a disease now. I can't stop. I managed to restrain myself from going apeshit in Rivet City because it's an important trading hub, but I fear that's going to go wrong one of these days. They just piss me off with the "I can see you're eyeing that" remarks. I cleared out Underworld...it was a freaking massacre. But we can't have those mutated freaks walking around as if they were actual people, can we? Killing all those innocents was made a little worse with 'bloody mess'. Shooting a running girl in the back is one thing, watching her explode into a red haze of limbs and blood is another.
Anyways, I'm also enslaving folks and getting cash for them. Even with my horrid charisma and low barter skill I'm rapidly becoming rich...all the enslaving and extorting helps, but mostly it's that I can loot entire inventories for caps and items (and expensive schematics) when i go on a killing spree. I kill the occasional scavenger too when nobody's looking in order to loot their inventory. Did I mention I killed Three Dog? The radio show is now run by a technician named Doris or some such. It's freaking hilarious. She makes remarks like "I guess I'm playing music now, because somebody murdered our last DJ" or "Since we don't have a replacement for Three Dog yet, I will be your host. Yeeey!". I love that they actually paid attention to a detail like that.
Getting big weapons in proper condition is easier now too, with me killing all brotherhood soldiers I can and all. Ammo is still expensive though, so I'm boosting up barter now...I found the Agility bobblehead, in case anyone is interested. It's in a byhouse at a toxic waste dump up North.
No other news yet, I think. There's still so much left to explore. I cranked combat up to hard, like you guys. Suddenly some creatures become incredibly dangerous, like Deathclaws. Which is pretty much spot on. I like the game even more with the combat cranked up, tbh. I have some clips and pics at home that I will post some time soon...at work now.
Oh and Satis, make sure you make a save before you start the final quest...the game offers you the chance to do so, so it shouldn't be a problem. But don't miss out on the window of opportunity. You neutral yet, btw? I love regulators. They actually saved my ass from a bunch of supermutants once, before attacking me. And are your followers still alive? I already got one of my slaves killed. He was attacked in the back by a super mutant with a minigun. Loser.
I'll go on record here and say: Fallout 3 is GotY. Hands down.

lol...garden gnomes ftw.
I've actually been a reload whore... when my peeps get killed, I reload. I won't do that next game. I'm also playing on medium, just for the rest of this game. Dogmeat dies quite a bit... dumbass thinking he can go mano-y-mano against a deathclaw or some mofo with a plasma rifle.
I managed to get good again, teh regulators helped. I have like 49 fingers on me I haven't turned in yet, either. Clearing several slaver towns helped that. You probably know roughly where I am considering I just cleared Paradise Falls.

Yeah, I've got an inkling. You're moving along nicely.
Gotcha @ reloading and medium combat. It's the same for my previous character. I'm starting to dig this one even more than my first one, for some reason. Maybe because of all the stuff exploding.
Btw, relying on big guns alone is very hard, especially on harder difficulty settings. The flamer is an incredibly effective weapon at close to mid range against one or more opponents, but ammo isn't easy to come by. The minigun positively DEVOURS ammo, the missile launcher is notoriously low on missiles and I won't even start about the Fatman. So I use a lot of the home-made weapons instead, or occasionally switch to a hunting or assault rifle...but against a supermutant they're practically useless with little training.
When I walk through Paradise Falls, everybody is like "whoah! let me get out of the way, killer". They even come up to me and give me some ammo from previous raids, no joke. They lurv me.

I completed the game yesterday with my intelligent, energy and gun slinging good guy. I saved right before the end and got 2 different endings as a result. You can probably guess what I did and how.
I've since restarted. I'm not a chick with really high charisma and strength with melee and unarmed skills being my main things. The idea is she's this tough, suave chick who's absolutely evil and likes to bash people.
I killed practically everyone in the vault on the way out and you can guess I'll be causing megaton some grief soon. I need to buff up my explosives skill a bit before, though.
Oh, the first perk I chose was black widow and it's already come in handy.
