ok...just wanted to say that I think my HD is about to die.

it's been making gravelly noises for a while now, but since I never really had any problems and defragged regulary I didn't mind it much.

But yesterday I open IE and it takes a looong time to 'load'. The HD was working crazy and it wouldn't open until 5 minutes later, after which everything went smooth again.

That's not THAT bad, but just 5 minutes ago the pc went "krrrrr - peeeeep- krrrrr" and then back to normal. During these few seconds the applications I was running "froze" for a moment too.

So...I guess the HD will die. I'm picking up some hardware for my bro in a day or two, better buy me a HD myself just in case, I guess. If it hasn't already died by then.

But for the record...it does sound like a HD dying, right? Cos I might add that I was downloading some stuff at the time the beep-stuff happened, so the HD was relatively busy.

err...if the HD is making loud grinding noises, that's a bad thing. Perhaps you can record yourself imitating the noises it makes and post it on the forums. After laughing at you and posting it elsewhere on the internet, maybe we can figure out what it really is.

Just curious, how long did you have the HD for?

Is that the HD that came with your "new" PC and who is the manufacturer.

lol @ imitating noises Let's just say it usually sounds like gravel rolling over an iron plate, or something. I'm pretty certain it's the HD because the noise tops when i'm downloading or when I'm playing a game like GW (constant streaming).

Derf, I've had it for as long as I had this pc - two year. And Peltz, it's a 120 gig Maxtor SATA disk.

I already placed an order for a Seagate 160 gig disk in the meantime. It has a 5 year warranty, no more of this crap.

oh yea...I had some bad luck with Maxtors. I used to swear by them, then had 2 I think go bad on me in rapid succession. Now I buy western digital.
