The only thing I can really think of hardware wise would be my sound card. Just because I've been having trouble with it recently. So this time I didn't install the driver for it. Same shit.
Right now I'm on yet another completely fresh windows install. I'm going to try yet again, and get to the stage where it tries to install this update and just remove it from the list.
Then at some point over the next week I'll get microsoft on the phone and get someone to step me through it, then I can swear at them when it doesn't work.

try removing all the hardware out of your computer that you can do without and try again.
Like the sound card.
After you do all your OS updates, you can always stick the hardware in again.

Hmm, I might do that. I could do that at any point really.
What i've done is formatted, disabled automatic updates. Changed to Microsoft Updates (Instead of windows, just incase that was the issue) and then installed every updates except the one causing the error.
I find it odd that just that one update is causing the issue.
Every test I can think off has been done, every method tried and nothing is working. Removing all the hardware I won't need is the next step.
Stupid fucking windows. FUCK YOU.
