Im definitely going to build my next mega-rig. Probably next year sometime. It justs makes perfect sense, its cheaper and you know exactly what to expect from it. I'm not going to skimp on it either.

32°/89F Mobo


When I was playing GW yesterday for about 3 hours in a row they never even hit 40°C, or about 100F. Should be more than good enough.

Also, no crashing or anything during the 3-hour Guild Wars session...so fingers crossed, it might have been it...we'll see when I start playing something more intensive like Oblivion. Or something.

@Derf ... yes. You want positive air pressure in the case. So more airflow in then out.

@ox ... you just told me that your CPU temperature is lower than your motherboard temp. Was that a typo, or are you serious?

My cpu is around 42 C right now, my mobo is around 24 C. Comparing, your CPU is nearly cold next to mine...but your mothboard is on fire. That seems very odd to me.

Heh, no, it wasn't a typo...should I be worried now? In "rest" my CPU is a few degrees cooler than my mobo, but when I'm playing games it usually gets a few degrees than the mobo. (all celcius)

Here's a pic of my temps right now..I have a badass CPU fan, but still. Wouldn't explain why my mobo is so hot compared to yours.

that's screwed up. Your "motherboard" temperature is basically supposed to be the ambient temperature of your case. If you're using just fans and not water cooling or phase change cooling or whatever, there is no way in hell your CPU can be cooler than your case ambient temp.

I think the mobo sensor is screwed up on your box. Not a big deal, just wierd. Either that or Belgium is a hole in the space-time continuum.

Anyway...after everything ran just fine for a long while after the previous stuff (you might recall that it was 'solved' by plugging in the case fan again), I ran into another crash today, very similar in nature to the previous ones.

I had just fired up GW and was getting my war from Prophecies to Factions. having no clue how to do this, I went with him the 'training island' on the Prophecies map, you know, the place you could go to in the beta. So, I'm there for like 10 minutes and apart from a few minor 'hangs' (which I attributed to lag) nothing wrong. Then, bang, BSOD. Without any text on it. So I reboot, hangs at the ASUS welcome screen. I reboot again, get an error message going something like

Bios rom checksum error
no cd
no boot disk

or whatever. I'm already panicking that my BIOS is fooked at this point. I shut down and decide leave the pc alone for a while. 45 minutes later I reboot, and apart from a reaaally slow load of my windows programs (msn messengern HP printer, whetever) everything runs just absolutely fine. Obviously I didn't bother running GW again, it being 23.30.

So wtf? There OBVIOUSLY is a heat issue. Just like before the pc will reboot after leaving it alone for a while. Also, it would make some sense as it was a pretty hot day and -to my feeling- it was goddamn warm in the room too. But still...I hadn't been doing anything intensive before GW and I had only been playing it for 10 minutes. I wouldn't expect a meltdown from that.

Sigh. Maybe I should let my mobo and gfx get checked then, if you say the higher mobo than CPU warmth is so impossible and/or fucked up Satis. I just...gah. I got like 5 fans in that case, I don't overclock and I don't live in a freaking tropical country. Stupid hardware parts.
