Mr. Moles New Computer.
Right well i've decided, i'm going to buy parts, slowly but surely, for a new PC. Working extra hours where I can from now on. I'll edit this post, and keep you up to date with what pieces are going in. What I want from you guys, is a yay or nay on each piece, so I know I'm not making a huge mistake. So, let's get started with the Motherboard, and I'll add to the list, as time goes on. Oh, and by the way, i'm not looking for a Top of the range PC, just a significant improvement on what I have.
Bought it, should arive tomorrow
Might go a little better on this one. Just trying to find cost effective stuff.
it's a GeForce 6200... Half the RAM... Which is better though?
I'm on a 2ghz 32 bit CPU at the moment, in comparison how's a 1.8ghz 64 bit CPU?

motherboard: never heard of Foxconn, but the chipset (Nforce 4 ultra) is good shit. Probably a good choice, since it's really more about the chipset then the manufacturer.
5200...underpowered, very slow, not worth it imo. It's too hobbled. Still, it's cheap, and if that's what you're after, go get it. Don't know squat about a 6200, but the 6200 is PCIExpress vs the 5200 which is PCI. Dunno if that really means anything...look up any reviews on the two?

On the Foxcon motherboard, i've read a couple of reviews with 5 stars awards, also a few people said "good solid manufacturer" I'll read up on the graphics cards in a mo and post back here. Just don't know why the "more powerful" on is so cheap.
Quick question - this is a PCI E card, is that compatible with normal PCI?
Review about second card At least, i think thats the same card.

I believe a PCI card will work in PCI-X. However, a PCI-X card will NOT work in regular PCI. Not really an issue for you, since you do have PCI-X slots in taht Fuxon motherboard.
FUXON = 'Fucks-on'?

Lol, i thought as much. It's just that i'd buy that graphics card sooner if it'd work in my Mobo right now, which i think only has PCI.
Damn, just realised that CPU is on offer... *cries* it won't be that cheap forever! DAMNIT! Why am I so poor?

Stoned prince .. with some imagination okay. At least it has 2 eyes
Btw i read in the other topic about Aldi-pc's, don't mock them, just because it isn't your regular electronics dealer it doesn't mean it's crap. I know several people that have these computers, and they're very happy with it. Also people that know a lot about computers, yes
My humble apologies for this slighty off-topic going post, again.
I watched Heartbreak Ridge the other day, forgot that's actually a good film.
Carry on Mr. Satis.

Whats your budget? By the looks of your spec, it looks like a low-end system that you want to build.
Maybe later tonight, ill be able to pull a list together for you.

64 bit cpu sounds nice. Until you can get your hands on a 64bit version of windows xp, you won't see a major increase over a similarly clocked 32 bit cpu. Though there is some, apparently, due to improved architecture or whatever. Anyway, CPU sounds good.

I take it Longhorn will be designed for 64bit optimisation?

If longhorn ever comes out. It's like six years late or something.
Hmm, looking at that motherboard, i found it in the UK, but it's quite a bit more expensive.
What kinda tax am i gunna be paying in the import? (also postage and packing)
