Printer Sharing
Ok, i need a complete and utter newbs guide to getting this to work. I've been through every damn windows help file and still nothing happens.
I've started out trying to get Pev's comp (the one with the printer) to have a shared folder on the network, which i can access. No luck. Everytime i get close, it tells me that Her computer could not be found on the network.
So I wanna start from scratch. Where's the best place to go?

So you want to share a printer or a folder?
Simple question.
Are both computers in the same workgroup?

yep. Same work group. Same subnet. After that it starts getting dirty with configuration.
Maybe next time you'll pay attention in class, Pokemon!

we both ran the windows xp network set up thingy. both on workgroup MSHOME. both can 'see' the other computer but if we try to access them 'that computer cannot be accessed'. Don't really care about sharing files, dont have any we need to share, but printer will be useful coz mole doesn't have one

Just click on start, control panel, printers and fax, right click on your printer, select sharing, set a share name.
Then on the computer that doesnt have a printer. Go to start, control panel, printers and fax, then add a new printer, then select "connect to this printer" then type in the network path like \\computer2\printer1. And your all set. Or you just double click the other computer in Network neighborhood and then double click the shared printer.
Share the printer first before trying to access the other computer.
Make sure you turn off that BS windows firewall crap to.

Well, check the administrator log, see what errors are in there.
Are both computers useing DHCP? Are they static IP's? Same subnet ?
This isnt that hard to do.
Also, check the properties of your network adapter, make sure "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Netoworks" is in there.
