Why do they have to do this to me? No good rpgs for ages and then all of a sudden a bunch of them are in development all at once. *shakes fist*

Meh, I don't really like the swords either. I hope they'll fix it, but I'm afraid not.
Anyway, I found with lead designer David Gaider. It has quite a bit of information about the game.

Those in-game animation clips are amazing. Obviously though, that king is going to have to die. He's way too much of a lamer to be allowed to live. 
Too bad it's still so far off...better not to think of it too much until then, aye?
