I never took a henchman with me in the game and prolly never will, i want to be in total control. And yeah that potion was cool, dunno if you could keep it though.
So i wouldn't take him with me, but that's just me.

Didn't like Deekin very much, was fun to have him along the first few steps, then I told him to get lost I think Xanos (that's the half-orc, right?) is the most useful. If you tell him to level up as Barbarian he can help getting rid of the hordes of low level monsters. Actually, every henchman in SoU is useless. The only really good thing is that you can put all your heavy stuff you're going to sell on your henchman so he's encumbered in stead of you. Oh wait, that's kinda unnecessary as well since I rarely purchase anything from a store Anyway, your choice. I think it's best to go solo. Your choice

i hear ya ox.
yeah, i've taken deekin, he's ok, he's good for the dialogue, obviously his bardsong is damn usefull, and of course he can pretty much identify everything you pick up. downsides are pitiful combat skills, and the xp soaking up. in hotu if he concentrates on RDD his stats get far better but the bardsong suffers. nice if you give him the lich lyrics though.
blah...
and yeah, that dragon was pretty cool, good sense of humour....

Hehe...k, after the combined opinions here I decided to go on without a henchman, bard song sounded pretty darn cool, but I'm not giving away my precious XP for that. Now I have to find a way to become lawful (I'm chaotic) in order to become a dwarven defender. Or maybe I'll just save that for HOTU, we'll see. Them tactics guides can say what they will, but a dwarf with kick-ass CON and a big axe seriously pwnz about everything...no need to run from opponents (archers, mages), to sleep to re-memorize stuff (mages, bards), or to sneak and lay traps (rogues), just head-on ass-whoopin' w00t!
I'll keep you updated on the progress.

Beat SoU yesterday! It was a bit of a strange game...i had some difficult fights along the way, but the endfight and the last "lvl" on the whole was disappointingly easy. Endfights lasted 30 secs, without 1 HP loss.
Had fun nonetheless..didn't take along a henchman and ended up fighter (2)/barbarian (11) dwarf, of course.
Started HotU too, it's promising...lots of detail etc. I want to go for dwarven defender, obviously, but i need my alignment to change from chaotic to lawful, anyone got any suggestions? And HoTu finally looks like it's gonna be challenging.
Every other info about HotU is welcome too! Looking at a.o. you BJ I already found a few +3 weapons so cash seems to be abundant

The alignment system in NWN sucks, I never saw any changes.

you actually get a few good-evil shifts in sou and nwn offal but i don't recall it happening in hotu. chaos-lawful shifts hardly ever happen i'm affraid it sucks really, you may be stuck with chaos. i know you already made your character but it's really always best to plan out every little level up, etc if you have a prestige class in mind.
do you qualify for weapon master instead?
btw, +3 is nothing in hotu eh arathorn?

Evil-good changes: plenty of them
And i remember that if you bash in doors from normal houses you become more chaotic sometimes. But that`s obviously not the direction you want to go. So i don`t see that dwarven defender getting reality.

I didn't play HotU much, shorlty after I started (just in the Underdark), I lost time to play and when that was over, I had lost interest.

the game talks about the 'great hero' whether you have finished sou, or the nwn offal, it just assumes you did sou anyway.
