I think you can find several pieces of coal in the planar sphere. Did you check the room on your left when you enter (there's some kind of golem there), i know quite sure there's some coal there. Don't you find the golem arms there too?
For the head, i think you need to go up in the room where you find that golem-making machine. Then you're in the room where you need the coals for, with 3 big ovens. In this room go right (only exit) and you get a room with 2 or 3 different golem, plus an iron one i believe. There's something machine-weel-like where you can find the head in.
Btw, if you press TAB-button, you can highlight containers and things on the floor, very very handy for not forgetting or losing stuff. But i think you need Throne of Bhaal installed for that, maybe it comes with the latest patch dunno. So i'd strongly suggest installing ToB, since you can do a bit of watcher's keep as well, and put your experience cap much higher.

3 pieces of coal:
*one on the left when you enter
*one where the golem head can be found
*one on the body of one of the guys you have to fight when you're just passed the halflings. Entu and friends.

There are 4 pieces of coal, in fact. To easen up the search process for it, undoubtedly.
Hey May, what's your party atm? and what class, race, lvl, etc. is your main char?

Cool party, but you seem rather short on tanks May. Although I suppose Minsc and Valygar can stick it out up front for a while. No real hack 'n slasher though. If you're looking to improve the party, I would suggest people like Korgan or maybe Keldorn. If you're into the law-abiding kinda guy.
Haer' rocks though doesn't he?

Replace Valygar with Korgan/Keldorn after doing his quest. You can never have too many dual-wielders, unless it's Haer.
Keldorn Firecam's home is at the Government District.
