Red Orchestra 2
One of my most anticipated games this year. RPS released a few screenshots today http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/06 ... a-2-shots/The whole "sitting in a tank with 3-4 guys and each manning a position" has me wetting myself with anticipation.

Re: Red Orchestra 2
I'll need to see it in action, or at least get more information on it, but it looks promising.

Re: Red Orchestra 2
Yeah, there hasn't been too much gameplay footage yet but this has some of both infantry combat and inside a tank Tank stuff starts at about 4.20 in. Nothing spectacular yet since it's early beta, but the feel of the inside of the tank already looks good. With the added reloading and other stuff this should be great.

Re: Red Orchestra 2
ok, so that looks better. I didn't watch the whole thing because the video quality is just horrible. On the other hand... zomg, you can replace the freaking barrel of your machine gun!? Wow. Not that, y'know, I would ever do that in combat. Like ever. But maybe things were different in WWII. And I did carry an LMG. I just know not to melt my freaking barrel.

Re: Red Orchestra 2
I think most if not all barrels of modern LMG's can be swapped in the field. I presume when the shit hits the fan, you need to put as many rounds downrange as possible and 20 seconds to swap out the barrel doesn't seem so bad.
Come to think of it, when I used to pick the MG class in RO1, I would very often swap barrels. The action was THAT intense and the MG is VERY good at suppressing the enemy in RO.

Re: Red Orchestra 2
The mgs we have need the barrels changed after 250 rounds. The barrel change itself takes around 10 seconds based on the xp of the aid/gunner. The gunner yells barrel, the aid punches the barrel loose, takes it off, attaches a new one, locks it with a pull of the lever and its good to go.

Re: Red Orchestra 2
You can replace the barrel of the M249 (what I carried), but standard combat loadout included 800 rounds of ammo (4 200 round boxes of belts), but no barrels. So it's not something you were expected to have to do. *shrug* And 250 rounds? That seems awfully fast.

Only to let it cool down, not throw away.

Re: Red Orchestra 2
oh, ok, that makes more sense. I was pretty shocked at first.
Of course, mine shot 5.56mm ammo... yours was probably 7.65mm, so that does make a pretty big difference in heat generated. I know someone whose SAW went runaway and fired off a full 200-round belt of blanks. Blanks have more gunpowder (AFAIK) and should produce more heat, but his weapon wasn't negatively affected.

Re: Red Orchestra 2
I wouldn't know how much the powder difference is but the blanks require a compensator at the end of the barrel and that means nearly all the shit gets left inside the gun.

Re: Red Orchestra 2
Release date on Steam for this is August 30th. That's in the pretty near future.

Re: Red Orchestra 2
Yeah. And since I own the original RO (thanks to Derf) it's 20% off on preorder for me, coming down to an easy 27€. I'm actually considering it...

Re: Red Orchestra 2
So...I traded 2 TF2 hats for Red Orchestra 2. I'm positively chuffed. And, finally, a gameplay trailer...looks tight as fuck. The weapons look amazing, and the tanks glorious.

Review from IGN http://pc.ign.com/articles/119/1195442p1.htmlSummary, great multiplayer, not so much for single player.

Re: Red Orchestra 2
Mm, a little disappointment, but in the end no one plays it for the SP of course. So good news overall. I got it from O'Cram in return for a few virtual hats, but I'm gonna wait until it gets more updates before diving in.
