Ugh. Let's hope the X-com reboot will be more than a random FPS, but seriously what is this obsession with making everything into an FPS? It'll probably be a lousy console shooter, too.

Perceived greatest chance of success. Even if the game is total garbage, some of the resources can be recycled into a new product or if the game is mediocre success then into the crappy expansion. FPS equals monies I guess.

IMO, FPS's are some of the hardest games to make. Even if you're recycling the engine, there's all those textures and all the level design. Graphics on an RTS aren't as hard core and the level design is basically 2d. So, yea, not really sure wtf is up.

I think a GOOD FPS is hard to make - other than that it's just basic level building, which isn't THAT hard if you're operating on an existing engine (which 99% of all shooters do). Well, not that hard for professional developers, it's not like I can shake an FPS game out of my trousers or anything.

I think the difficulties of an RTS are purely in balance and AI routines, which are less of an issue in (bland) shooters.

Personally, I think building levels in an FPS is a lot of work. At least for levels that are interesting or fun. Cookie cutter cut and paste of levels isn't so hard, like lots of FEAR 1 was. Guess it depends.

Well here's some gameplay. Doesn't look too horrible but it's no Syndicate as we know it.

I was watching that video and was like... this is some serious dubstep music soundtrack crap going. Sounds a lot like the Skrillex concert I went to last night. And at the end, yea, it was Skrillex that wrote the song. Figures.

Anyway, agreed, it doesn't look like Syndicate... more like Deus Ex. Still, it might be good. It was certainly graphic.

yeah it doesn't look bad, but very DX-y. Still sucks that they felt the need to remake the game using the Syndicate franchise, but eh, I don't have as much of an emotional connection with it as I do to some other classic games.
