Music/laser kinect hack
This is pretty cool, actually. http://vimeo.com/24303171Kinect used to control a combination of lasers and Ableton Live techno tracks. Neat stuff. I love the Kinect hacks coming out. A really good implementation could have music reacting to the dance floor.

Mm these kinect hacks are getting better and better...this is like a stepping stone to a new dance discipline where you coordinate the light show by your moves/music. Neat.

useful kinect hack
this is a different kinect hack, but since this thread was so close to the top anyway, I thought I'd post it in here. Here's one that's got some real-world application... a kinect hacked to make a shopping cart follow a disabled person around a store. video in link http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/05/newe ... -disabled/

Re: Music/laser kinect hack
Those are glimpses of the future we're seeing. I mean seriously, carrying around your own shopping basket or cart when you can make it follow you with relatively accessible materials? Sooner or later someone is commercializing this or other kinect hack ideas. If I had money I'd explore options of putting it to use, but alas I am a poor bastard. Once you have a decent pile of money, making more is only a problem if you're retarded.

They say the first million is the hardest. Too bad I'm pretty damned far away from that first mill.

Haha, yeah, same here. I've come to accept that, unless I somehow get a book published and get hyped (unlikely) I'm very, very, VERY unlikely to ever get rich. So, instead I just started playing the Euromillions lottery. I know it's an idiot tax, but let's face it: odds that I'm gonna get rich any OTHER way are even more slim than striking lucky on euromillions.

Re: Music/laser kinect hack
Man, you euros are freaking defeatist. I figure I will make my millions, I just need to make something awesome... a game, a killer app, a killer web site, a killer job, music... something. I'm gonna keep trying until I succeed or I die.

Haha, I prefer the term "cynical realist". Only people who are extremely lucky, come from rich families already or are willing to spend years grovelling and kissing asses of people they don't like at all (they call that networking I believe) ever become rich. Well, you might get lucky I suppose. It's probably a tiny bit easier in the US than here anyway, if you start your own business for example. Taxes here make it really tough for small business owners to, start up, so I know 2 people who've actually moved to the US to start a company there (and one of them is doing really well).

Re: Music/laser kinect hack
that's possible... and speaks very poorly of the EU, actually. Small businesses and new businesses are really the life of any active economy. If it's hard to do those, that's a huge government fail.
In the US it's easy to start a business... it's also easy to fail. But if you have a good plan/business model/location, you can make it work. Takes a lot of work, obviously, but not a huge pile of cash to begin.

Re: Music/laser kinect hack
Yeah, i'm looking at the realistic chances ahead of me and the only way i'm gonna get rich is if I win the lottery.
It's not defeatist, it's just a grip on reality.
Certainly when I was younger, I had aspirations of being well-off / wealthy. But that's only cos as a kid you're starting from scratch and nothing seems to be in your way.

Re: Music/laser kinect hack
well, acquire some marketable skills and when I make my mill, I'll consider hiring you. Assuming I can rape your skills for my own benefit.

Re: Music/laser kinect hack
I don't think stabbing people with a gladius counts as a marketable skill. One of my friends always says that if he wins the Euromilliosn jackpot (like 80 million € or so) he'd buy an apartment building in the city and let all of his friends live there at almost no rent (utilities costs but not much more). Kinda hoping he wins the lottery now.
