doh, caught in the act. I bet someone gets a slap on the wrist and the practice continues. It's hard to get too mad about people selling your junk to Africa. |

I live close to the port of Antwerp, one of the largest ports in Europe (and the world), and I have a friend who visits it a lot for work. We've both seen several really crappy looking African 120-th hand car container ships being filled with cars that barely drive or don't drive at all anymore, for shipping to Africa. We can only assume they use the working cars until they breakdown and strip down the crappy ones to repair other cars. Clearly, a shitload of cars or parts just get dumped somewhere in their country of destination, but for our countries it's an 'out of sight, out if mind' issue I'm sure. I'm pretty sure they don't exactly ask the African buyers what they will do with the waste. |
