Console games dying
This is from the Angry Birds executive, who of course thinks gaming is migrating to the cellphone. I'll take it all with a HUGE grain of salt, but it's funny to see people talking about console gaming dying after so many years of consoles saying that PC gaming is dying. Of course, he's talking about the business model, not the console itself, but that's ok. http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/122558/ ... s-dead.htm

Re: Console games dying
I hate what consoles have done to PC games, but wow, that article is pure fail. Don't know where to begin.
I love in the in-depth analysis of the pricing models: "Vesterbacka also pointed to the major concern over the price model for console games. Compared to mobile titles like Angry Birds that run for 99 cents, games on large consoles hover around fifty dollars."
Then he goes ahead an concedes that the mobile gaming business model has not yet developed...
In my opinion, consoles will be around for a long time. The dude seems to have ... oh man i'm not even gonna bother.

Re: Console games dying
This is a comment that has been tried on versus the next generation psp. Some people are claiming it will fail before it's even released because people who want a portable game want something small that you can play on the way to work (eg Angry Birds with short levels, easy to stop playing quickly as opposed to MGS with it's checkpoints or something). Of course this is true in some cases, but there are puzzle games, or games saveable anywhere on the PSP/DS and of course some handhelds are taken on holidays, hence you want more than a level-based puzzle game. But there are always these kinds of "end of the world" statements about the 'old' thing.

Re: Console games dying
I agree entirely with both of you. Any of these "blah blah generalizations" are pure BS. To some degree, mobile gaming on phones is hurting portable gaming systems, sure... but consoles and PC games are separate...and even separate for one another. To doom-say is just ridiculous, and probably just someone pushing their own agenda. At any rate, it's interesting to see the latest slant on the same old story.
