Re: Disturbing ad
lol, that's so ridiculous.
zomg, my choice to be ignorant is being removed! Oh noes, my ability to demean another group as being inferior is being taken away. That commercial tried so hard to make it seem like gay marriage is bad for everyone. but all their reasons as to why were ridiculous.

Re: Disturbing ad
Man, that's rediculous. I mean honestly, the only point I could almost see valid in that ad was the chosing between job or faith. But in reality, if you believe in your faith that much, then your job is going to take second place. But seriously, if someone said to me I wasn't allowed to sleep with someone the same skin colour as me, I'd stab them in the neck with a knife. (Bonus points for quote spotting anyone?)
If they aint hurting anyone leave 'em to it. Gives adopted kids a home too.
Honestly?

Re: Disturbing ad
Even the faith ting is kind of a straw man argument. I don't know any faith that says you'll go to hell for working with a gay person, or someone that's in a gay marriage. You don't HAVE to quit because of your faith. If you're quitting, it's because of your personal beliefs, not your faith.
Christianity sort of says homosexuality is wrong (though shalt not lay with another man as thou lay with a woman or some such shit), but if you take the quote entirely literally, that's not possible anyway, since the equipment is in the wrong places. Besides, what kind of lay? I mean, I regularly use at least 3 or 4 sexual positions... are they all off limits? Is only missionary allowed in any case? Makes ya wonder.
So, anyway, there's nowhere in the christian bible, that I'm aware of, that says "thou shalt not work with a gay person". *shrug*
btw, I have no clue what that quote is from, sorry.

Re: Disturbing ad
Yeah, I agree with you - but I suppose you could take the whole "what's the real meaning" angle to the words in the advert too.
What you believe in and what you faith are could be the same thing. Obviously, in the current subject, Faith is a belief of religion. That much is obvious, but Faith doesn't need to have a religion tagged to it, the same way that "lay with a woman" doesn't really need to either.
I'm just being pedantic though, the advert is stupid. I mean, they've every right to not touch a gay person if they don't want to - but just like I'll never ask someone to be a Christian, they have no right to ask people to hate gays.

Re: Disturbing ad
I agree with you. I'm surprised that commercial is even legal, if it is. It encourages discrimination. I'm all for freedom of speech, but if I say "I refuse to work with black people because they all steal", I'd be censured for racism. Somehow, "I refuse to work with gay people because they're going to hell" is ok? Meh, I think we're mostly of a mind here.

hehe... I'm not a big fan of Colbert, but I like his version of the commercial.

Re: Disturbing ad
It's just very worrying that there are people who actually endorse that shit. I still fail to see how two gays getting married is going to invade anyone's private life. Or how teaching children in school that there is such a thing as gay people is a bad thing, it's not like they're never going to be confronted with a gay guy eventually. Well, I guess there is one way you could consider it a problem: if you really believe that being gay is a choice and makes you an evil sinner. Clearly, that is what these people stand for.
