Re: BP needs to die
The news about it has been plenty here too (though not at the moment, since there's not much news about it). But since I always watch The Daily Show and The Colbert Report I've seen quite a lot about it. Surely BP handled this badly, but I'm not yet sure if they were responsible for the whole disaster. The oil rig was owned by another company and the drilling itself was done by Halliburton. So let's not scapegoat BP too easily.

Re: BP needs to die
Having not been directly involved in any of it, I can't assign blame. However, I've read a lot of articles that make it sound like BP was taking a lot of safety shortcuts in an attempt to maximize profit. There's been a few questions that these were the root cause of the whole disaster. http://www.google.com/search?q=bp+safety+shortcutsI doubt we'll ever know the full truth, but they've certainly been caught in some lies since.

Re: BP needs to die
According to some experts I've heard about it, probably all oil companies do this, BP may have been one of the worst offenders, or just unlucky.

Re: BP needs to die
I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. Still, I'd like to see BP destroyed as a company in such a way that the rest of the oil companies will fall into line. If they get away with a slap on the hand, there'd be no reason for the rest of the companies to correct their problems.
Well, that and I'd like to see more government regulation, or at least better enforcement of regulation. As much as I hate government intervention, this is the kind of stuff the government exists for. Regulating mega-companies like BP is impossible for the average citizen.

Re: BP needs to die
So is the beach you're going to going to be filled with oil? It's pretty amazing how companies like BP that make literally billions of dollars a year can't seem to be bothered to spend the necessary cash to solve shit like this. It can never cost more than the actual building of the installation in the first place, except of course that there is little financial return in it for them right now. But in Dutch we have a saying that goes "if you burn yourself, you gotta sit on the blisters"

lol @ daily show. Murder them all! Err, anyway, here's hoping there's no oil on my beach. There better not be any freaking oil on that beach.
