Empire Strikes Back 30th Anniversary
My favorite Star Wars movie, and I'm not the only one. If you didn't know, Shiny and I are Star Wars fanatics, though we don't wear outfits (often) or go to cons (yet). Ars has a nice retrospective on the greatest Star Wars movie of all time. http://arstechnica.com/media/news/2010/ ... g-film.ars

Re: Empire Strikes Back 30th Anniversary
I like Sci-fi, and the parts 4,5,6 are very high on my list. First place however is and probably will always be held by Babylon 5. I really liked Firefly, for such a short show it had ridiculous amount of good quotes. I also like 5th Element because everything fits together in it, from the music to the humor and the movie gets better each time i see it.

Re: Empire Strikes Back 30th Anniversary
I've never seen Babylon 5. Isn't that a tv show? I agree on Firefly rocking. 5th element was also really good. Did you ever see Farscape? That was pretty good as well, in my opinion.

Nope, I haven't seen it, but from the pictures at IMDB it looks interesting.

Re: Empire Strikes Back 30th Anniversary
Ah, that's too bad. I mean, it's a tv show, so it's not ALL great, but overall it's pretty cool. I know the DVDs here are expensive as hell, so we ended up renting and stuff to keep the costs down. Ah well, if you ever happen to run into it, I recommend it. I'll see if I can find Babylon 5 to watch. I love sci fi.

Don't forget Battlestar Galactica when talking about great SF shows btw! Dr. Who is always fun, and you should check out the miniseries 'V'. I even kind of like Dark Skies, which used to run back in the 90's.

Re: Empire Strikes Back 30th Anniversary
You meant he current V, or the original? The original was, imo, campy and had a lot of bad writing and worse acting. The current one just has bad writing and bad acting. If you're watching it, the next time you catch an episode, watch it and see how often they deliver a 'bombshell' or 'plot twist' or something. The music gets dramatic, everyone stares at the camera menacingly... thing is, it might not be so bad, but it happens every five minutes. It's went from 'omg V' to 'oh, V' to 'oh no, V'. Maybe I'm just getting Derfified.

Re: Empire Strikes Back 30th Anniversary
I did a city sweep today for Farscape, none, nada, zilch. It's not even orderable. So thanks Satis for getting my hopes up only to be crushed like a bug on a windshield.

Re: Empire Strikes Back 30th Anniversary
lol, grats. Now there's a chance you're going to hate it, so if there's any way you can get a free sampling, I'd recommend it. Before I'm personally responsible for you blowing that much dough on a sci fi series you hate.

Re: Empire Strikes Back 30th Anniversary
The ars article got me thinking how would the very first space fighter look like. And i think it would still retain its x-wing configuration but it would work more in a way like the starfuries from Babylon.
The Star Wars X-wing is clearly inspired by aircraft fighters where as the team behind starfury cleary put a thought in how a real space fighter would operate. The main difference is that star wars X wings had lasers at the end of the wings where as the star fury has engines. This gives the star fury incredible agility and maneuverability. Theoretically it could rotate quickly in pretty much any direction.
