Re: Good films..
Damn, I gotta go see Bladerunner now. I'm a huge fan of the orginal (and the source material, heh), so dunno why I haven't done so yet. Proly because I work Mon-Fri now and I hate going to the cinema with the common folk. I need an adult cinema like the one Satis goes to. I saw The Lobster on your recommendation Satis, and you're right it's a wonderful film. Acting, pacing, visually, metaphorically, so clever and weird and interesting. As a single in a couples' world a lot of the themes resonate with me haha. I love that the movie takes a shit on both couples and single people and the interplay. Also saw La La Land on a date and it was actually....really good. Some of the song and dance pieces I could take or leave and I don't like Emma Stone, but the musical and visual direction are out of this world. It's also a bittersweet movie with an adult theme about making choices, none of that sugary sweet happily ever after shit.

I actually enjoyed Stretch. Nothing groundbreaking but fun to watch http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2494280/?ref_=nv_sr_1

Re: Good films..
lol, that's awesome you watched (and liked) the lobster. What a bizarre movie that way. :p Logan -have you seen this yet? Hell, my memory is terrible. It may even be in this thread. Mostly great movie with a few unfortunate letdowns. Atomic Blonde - pretty decent cold war spy movie. Some of the fight scenes are freaking brutal. Worth a watch. Not much else to recommend at this time. Star Wars comes out in 8 days.

Watched 'The Last Knights' http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2493486/?ref_=nv_sr_2. Although the '47 Ronin' sub-theme is ever present in the movie, it is actually quite good. A bit predictable but definitely above average.

Re: Good films..
Mm Last Knights and Atomic Blonde sound pretty good - must investigate. Yeah, I saw Logan and felt the same way about it Satis. It did everything right and yet it somehow left me wanting a bit towards the end. Maybe they should have taken more time to work out what happened between the "regular" X-Men and Wolverine movies and this one. I mean I know that there was so massive 'powering down' of mutants in the Marvel Universe and that it is related to that, but I'm not enough of a comics geek to know the details. And those would have been interesting for people like me and other even more confused moviegoers I think. Saw Oblivion, with Tom Cruise, a while ago and it was a typical Tom Cruise blockbuster: impeccable production values, good story, well acted...and pretty forgettable haha.

Re: Good films..
Saw the new Star Wars, the last jedia on Thursday (day it came out, of course) and I liked it a great deal. Not surprising, since I'm a Star Wars geek. It had its issues, but so do all the Star Wars movies. Parts of it were really amazing... other parts were kinda meh. Still, overall it was great imo.
Watched The Bad Batch recently. What a weird freaking movie. It's not particularly good, but it's so bizarre it may be worth a viewing. Keanu Reeves is in it... I'd say he's the bad guy, but there's really no bad guy in this. Or everyone's a bad guy. I don't know.
Been watching Mr. Robot still. Still a good show, imo. I had to pause it on a shot of a Linux commandline to see what was going on (from a geek perspective) and it was kinda cute and actually believable.
Not watching much else at the moment. Have a few movies queued up. Once I watch them, I'll have more to say.

Re: Good films..
The Star Wars film is very divisive... some people love, some people hate... and to me, that means it was really good. It's not the same thing.. they did something different. I'd rather they do that (and fail) than rehash the originals ad nauseum. Still, many of your criticisms have a minor basis in reality . The movie could have been better. I love how both Kylo Ren and Rey have grown into their characters... Kylo Ren is a bad guy I can empathize with (rather than sneer at like in the first movie). His turn to the dark side and Luke's moment of weakness were great. The fact Rey is a nobody is awesome. The fact every time the rebels tried to execute a plan it failed completely is totally awesome. Poe hopefully matured (that was more ham-fisted), and Finn may finally be becoming a hero. I think the Rose thing was (another hamfisted) attempt at growing Finn into a leader rather than some guy killing himself for no real purpose.

Re: Good films..
Movies I've watched lately:
Blade of the Immortal: () A movie about a samurai that was made immortal and is convinced by a young girl to help her get revenge for her father's death. I saw this with english subtitles and it's actually pretty good, assuming you like that kind of movie. If you like samurai movies, watch it.
Your Name: (/) Anime movie about a guy and girl that randomly swap bodies. To say any more would ruin the plot, so I'll leave it at that. It's a bit of a chick flick I think, but it's still a good movie. If anime doesn't turn you off, i'd say watch it.
Sleight: () A kid from LA gets caught up in some crap and uses his skills with magic and sleight of hand to try to get out of it, or something. This movie was not particularly good. Avoid.
Atomic Blonde: () Charlize Theron is a spy in cold-war Berlin. I liked this movie. It gets into some pretty brutal violence at times and otherwise is an amusing cold war spy flick. I'd recommend it.

Re: Good films..
The Last Jedi continues to divide, but apparently mostly between the critics and the regular joes: http://www.metacritic.com/movie/star-wa ... -last-jedihttps://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/star_w ... _last_jediFor the critics, it's one of the best Star Wars movies to date. For the regular audiences it seems to be one of the worst to date. Peculiar, to say the least.

Yea, to each their own. I liked it, but I'm a Star Wars nut. I can't be relied upon for solid opinions. Still.... I liked it. I'm still hoping for another Rogue One type movie.

Unless its somekind of a hoax, then there's the Solo: A Star Wars Story in the making. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3778644/?ref_=vi_tr_mp_l_33

Re: Good films..
Oh yes, it'll be out soon. I'm looking forward to it. Lando seems like he's going to be very interesting.

Re: Good films..
Oh hell yeah, I think Donald Glover as Lando is amazeballs. Let's hope it won't be a disappointment. I might be more excited about seeing Glover as Lando than to see whoever is playing Han play Han. Saw a few movies recently but been so fucking busy that it's mostly been mindless popcorn stuff. But I'm not judging myself too harshly, don't worry. Wonder woman: actually a surprisingly good movie. Gal Gadot is perfectly cast as the wooden, naive, exotic superheroine. I fear all those qualities might work against her in the coming movies featuring wonder woman, but we'll see. Definitely a 7/10 for me. The first DC movie that was actually worth watching, imo. Thor Ragnarok: a really good movie that hits all the right marks, but my only criticism of it is that it didn't really feel much like a Thor movie. It was a bit too zany and out there, while I always saw Thor as a bit humorless and dour. Might have worked better as a Guardians of the Galaxy instalment really. Still, as a movie it's an 7.5/10 Valerian and the city of a thousand planets: This one is a mixed bag...it's got amazing worldbuilding and creativity, but the story and acting falls kind of flat. If you like SF and really outlandish ideas then this one is definitely one to watch, if not, skip.
