Saw the latest Coen brothers movie, A Serious Man. Not for everyone, but really really good. It's a sort of tragicomedy, a modern parable. If you don't know what to go see and like a movie that's built on acting, good camerawork and absurdity, check it out.

I went to see Avatar in 3d today. The movie is good from "National Geographic" point of view. Storywise its a really stretched out mediocracy. The scenery was as amazing as it can get with the current technology but the story sucked. As a person who is very much immune to "lets blow some shit up" and "lets blow some more shit up" and "the obligatory romance mumbojumbo" the weakness of the story was like a tree blocking the million dollar view. There were so many "how can they be so stupid" moments in the movie. Once the movie is stripped from the visuals all that is left is a very skinny rambo movie, the twists in the story were as obvious as the front light of a train going through a pitch black tunnel.

I still recommend it though, because the movie has some interesting ideas which i wouldnt want to ruin yet for those who haven't seen it. I would give it a 3+ out of 5.

Shiny and I finally watched Avatar in Imax 3d this weekend. As noted previously, the story is nothing new or awesome. However, the technology is fairly cool. The 3d effects are convincing, but not too over done, and the Imax is overwhelming as always. So basically I'm happy I went to see it in the theater. Had I seen it at home on a small screen with no 3d effect I probably would have been disappointed.

Went to see Solomon Kane last night, actually pretty good. There are a couple of patchy bits and the odd bit of acting makes you cringe a little, plus it's obviously heavily inspired by Lord of the Rings when it comes to the CGI stuff, but it's actually very enjoyable. Would definitely recommend going to see it at cinemas.

This week it's bad movie week on a Dutch tv station. Last night: . I have to admit I actually mildly enjoyed this movie (while doing useful things at the same time). It had a lot of the usual problems with sci-fi (gaping plot holes, poor acting, low budget for all the special effects needed), but it was still entertaining.

*sigh*
Battlefield Earth is one of my childhood happy spots that Hollywood raped. The book is actually very good... the movie raped it.

Same thing goes for The Postman. I highly recommend you read the book... and put the horrific movie far, far out of your mind.

We watched Dorian Gray not too long ago. It's actually a British movie, but despite that, it wasn't too bad. Actually I enjoyed it... woot for hedonism.

I actually watched Percy Jackson and the Lightning Theif recently. It was not too bad but had variations from the book series from what I understand. So if you read the Harry Potter series and still enjoyed the movies then this I would think to be along the same lines.
