Of course, we're still some ways from such a scenario, but if there's one Western country that has a worryingly increase in influence of fundamentalist Christians it's the US. And they have a lot of gun.

I agree on the potential for a future dark age, but I'm hopeful we've progressed far enough that it's just not possible. I could see a country or even a continent possibly do it, but not the whole world at once.
