I thought this up and tested it ages ago. Lo and behold, it actually worked quite well. Suppose you have a series of unfamiliar shapes or symbols that you want to memorise because decoded/translated, they have some value/use. There is a simple process to get them stuck into your head with very very minimal periodic practice.
1. Metally declare something instantly (and obviously) memorable about the first untranslated image. This can be anything at all. We will refer to this memory as X.
2. Mentally declare something memorable about the translated value with obvious relevance to X.
Bingo, there you have it. So after a good 30-60 minutes of initial practice for about 30 shapes you should be able to recall their respective values easily after about a couple of weeks of not even thinking about them.
Recalling them all once a week will make your memory flawless.Statistics: Posted by derf — Thu Mar 09, 2006 11:57 am
