Indecency Bill
Wtf? They raised the maximum fine for showing a nipple (oh noes!) and 'spreading filth' (I assume that's saying 'fuck' on air) from 32k to 325k dollar.
yay for the land of freedom. hehehe. Crazy conservative lobbies.

House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed the Decency Enforcement Act on Wednesday, sending the pro-family-backed legislation to the White House for final approval.
The final House vote approved the bill with 379 in favor, 35 opposed and 18 absentees. The Senate passed the exact same bill on May 18 by unanimous consent without a recorded vote.
While the bill will have many implications, its biggest impact will be felt among media giants that violate FCC standards on broadcasting. The bill increases to $325,000 the per-incident fine the FCC can impost on license for broadcasting indecent or obscene material – a tenfold increase from the current maximum fine, which is $32,500.
Pro-family groups celebrated the bill’s passage, calling it a “major victory for American families.â€

Retarded conservatives, and retarded voters at their best.

blame an idiot congress. Voters never had a chance at this., except by electing the idiots in congress. I bet if it came up for a referendum the victory, if there was one, would be nowhere near so overwhelming.
It's ok though... tv and radio suck ass anyway. And that only applies to "public" tv and radio...ie, subscription based content is exempt from FCC regulation. So you still get porn on cable. *cheer*

Still, it's amazing that a nation's government would be as outraged by a (covered!) nipple. Now if it were an ugly nipple...

lol its like Mole said the other day. Atm on english tv theres an underarm moisturiser advert or some such thing... now you can't show nipples on tv, but apparently on this advert its ok to have the woman holding her own breast instead just to cover it up.
Or like one of the old perfume adverts; had male and female on each half of the screen in weird make up etc, and one of the shots the womans top half is naked except for a black disc over her nipple... which just makes it look like a discoloured one...

It's in britain too? Over here you practically see nipples and naked women in kids' shows. Well, not regularly, but it does happen. And definitely in adverts for shampoo, perfume, etc. those seem to require nudity.

oh yeah, women are always naked, but nipples and, er... obvious bits are always covered. but covering nipples with nipple shaped and sized coverups is just pointless if you ask me. specially when you can see male ones all day long if you desire.

Yeah, the male ones get me all hot and bothered and then I am denied the more pronounced female ones!
No, it's ridiculous indeed. I don't get why they even bother with it...like you said, a woman wearing nothing but two 'patches' over her nipples is still naked.
It's like body paint. Them models are always going 'oh, i'm not naked, this is body paint'. Yeah right, tell that to me and my male friends. We don't care for such details, you'd think any sane person would realize that. But then again, models..

I never got people being prudish, why can't people have the freedom of choice to express themselves, I've got sick of my housemates last year censoring me for saying fuck once or twice

haha, they'd love me. I cus like a sailor. Though actually I've calmed down considerably since I was in the Arny. Right after I left Korea, I said fucked practically every other word. Ended up with some raised eyebrows when I was on leave.

Wow...that's weird. I mean, it wouldn't be weird of your roommates are girls, but I don't they are?
Are they from posh boarding schools and all perhaps?
