The Bush administration is planning to use nuclear weapons against Iran, to prevent it acquiring its own atomic warheads, claims an investigative writer with high-level Pentagon and intelligence contacts.

President George W Bush is said to be so alarmed by the threat of Iran's hard-line leader, Mahmoud Ahmedinejad, that privately he refers to him as "the new Hitler", says Seymour Hersh, who broke the story of the Abu Ghraib Iraqi prisoner abuse scandal.

Oh great. Can't Bushie wait until I finished my internship? I'll very likely have to commute between Antwerp and Brussels by train...and as we all know large public transport hubs are terrorist pwnage.

It would suck if I die because Bush gets itchy fingers and wants to nuke Iran. Actually, it would suck period if I die. The loss would be...innumerable.

Why immedeately a nuke? Like a normal cruise missle can't destroy a nuclear facility.

Yeah that would be very good for the US reputation in the Middle East.

True...the pentagon has contingency plans for virtually everything. I bet they have a plan to nuke Belgium into the stone age stashed somewhere. Not that putting Belgium into the stone age would be very hard... they're practically there already. But I digress. I certainly hope this isn't something that people are thinking seriously about.

Youre probably joking, but as a state, Belgium pWnZ.

Anyway, its still pretty dumb for the US to have planned this. No doubt the people have something to say about use of nukes.

Damn right we pwn! I think it's pretty 1337 for a state of a mere 10 million inhabitants (of which two halves are constantly quarreling) to be a first world country and not fold. :P Also, we don't roll over on our belly for the US and their megalomaniac foreign 'policy', diplomatically speaking. Of course, when a war breaks out Britain, France or Germany could just walk in and take over in like two days.

Probably because your economy relies less on the US.

EDIT: Actually, i will retract that comment. As Fabrique Nationale on its own has huuuuuge contracts with the US.

Could be...we're a service economy, so we're not as dependent of raw materials etc. But I would think most of Western Europe is primarily a service economy. Not that I know or anything, I just assume. :P

Also, the fact that we're so small makes it actually easier to be dissedent...I'm pretty sure the US didn't care half as much as it would with -say- Germany.

EDIT: lol @ FN. True that! But the US won't stop importing guns dude, not even from a a nation that's part of the 'axis of evil'.

True, but i just wanted to establish that there infact probably is strong Belgian economic interest with the US.

Just thought i'd provide you with a BBC update on the matter. Apparently, the US are denying any such planning:

meh, who cares if we planned to nuke Iran? Not that I believe in nuking...if noone ever uses a nuclear weapon ever again I might be happy. Those little bastards are a touch too much. At least on a planet. Maybe in space warfare nukes would be acceptable again.

Anyway, as for Belgium uber leetness... Some good beer from there, so I say we leave it alone. There's not enough room in the country to house an occupying force anyway... we'd have to quarter troops in France or Germany or something, then bus them in during the day to put the smack down on those couple Belgium villages. Just not worth the bus fare. :P
