Drone aircraft may prowl U.S. skies

Quote:
Unmanned aerial vehicles have soared the skies of Afghanistan and Iraq for years, spotting enemy encampments, protecting military bases, and even launching missile attacks against suspected terrorists.

Now UAVs may be landing in the United States.

A House of Representatives panel on Wednesday heard testimony from police agencies that envision using UAVs for everything from border security to domestic surveillance high above American cities. Private companies also hope to use UAVs for tasks such as aerial photography and pipeline monitoring.

oh lovely. At least they haven't been spying on us too publically. We still had the illusion of due process. Welcome to AmeriKKKa.

I have a funny feeling alot of UAVs are going to be shot down "accidently" by overzealous Americans with rifles.

Not that I'm an expert, but wouldn't it be virtually impossible to shoot a flying plane from the sky without some heavy weaponry? I mean, a heli I could understand, but a plane goes faster and flies higher.

lol. UAVs are pretty slow flying for the most part. Remember that video with the little girl firing the machine gun? Oh yea...she'd take out an UAV without too many problems, I think.
