well, to reiterate, I saw V for Vendetta. Decent movie. Much potential, ok to poor execution. Typical for the Warchowksi (whateverthefuck) brothers, it seems. Great ideas (Matrix), poor execution (Matrix 2 & 3).

Matrix 2 were just money-makers. When judging a film series, i typically ignore all except the first. The first usually has the only real cinematic quality. After that, the objectives of the movies seem to drift away from quality and more into ca$h.

I was kinda interested in V for Vendetta, the idea looked neat and the wachowski's have some nice SF credits. Good to know it won't be all disappointment. ;)

I think i'm gonna watch Bladerunner again tomorrow or something. Now that's a bad-ass SF movie that still holds its own against all the crap they release today. When will they realize that it's not because it's SF that special effects is all there is to it? Ace acting, believable settings, and an interesting story that poses some fundamental question of reality, humanity, morality...THAT'S Science Fiction. Not fucking Episode I-III or something like that.

yea, I agree. I can't remember the last really badass movie I watched. Even some of the ones I really dug had major shortcomings.

I was watching tv yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by a relatively low-budget tv movie called 'Ring of the Nibelungs'. As the title suggests it's based on the Nibelungen-saga and Wagner's adaption of it. It's a melting pot of a few different stories but it comes out great.

I actually think it was a short tv series made into a 'movie'. Either way, very enjoyable, the more if you're not too familiar with the Nibelungen saga already. The only problem I had with it is that it's a bit long and that some details don't make too much sense, probably because of time-related footage editing (like with LOTR). But the acting is good, the special effects surprisingly well done and the story packs all the classic elements you could expect from one of the greatest myths of Northern Europe. :)

The movie has different titles in different regions:

Curse of the Ring (Australia) (DVD title) (International: English title) (USA) (DVD title)
Dark Kingdom: The Dragon King (USA) (DVD title)
Kingdom in Twilight (Germany) (working title)
Nibelungen - Der Fluch des Drachen, Die (Germany) (DVD title)
Nibelungen, Die (Germany)
Saga dei Nibelunghi, La (Italy)
The Ring (Germany) (working title)
The Sword of Xanten (UK) (theatrical title)

Anyway, check it out if you like. You won't be disappointed, very decent movie. :)
