I know that long (pre-war maybe even) Dutch butcher shops weren't allowed to sell horse and other meat in the same shop. So it's probably regarded as "inferior" meat.

I thought calamari was octopus and squid was, well, squid. Or am I just confused?

Squid = Calamari. There are lots of different sizes, depending on age.



I helped prepare them once. Just pop the eyes (to get the ink out), Take out the mouth (small bone).

From then on you an do lots of things.

1. Either grill it intact to have grilled calamari. (yum).
2. Remove tentacles from body, chop the body up into rings, fry, then fry the tentacles bit. (yum).

So, who's right then? Satis or me? That was kinda what I was thinking, that there's (apparently) a difference between octopus and squid...as far as I'm concerned, they all have tentacles and blow oil...wouldn't know the difference between either.

Octopus and Squid are definately 2 different species.
