http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4625119.stm

For those of you that watch UK tv, have channel four, and used to watch countdown (the first EVER show to air on channel 4 by the way) richard whitely has died. That show has been there my entire life, I watched it with my Brother and my now disceased nan, and even my mom.

The fact that this show will never succeed without him probably means the doom of channel fours ratings, but either way, Richard whiteley, don't you dare rest in peice, come the fuck back to life.

The town where my parents live (and I used to) is only about 5 minutes away from the village he was honourary mayor too. They've got hundreds of flowers all over the village apparently. Let's face it, Channel 4 won't be the same without him.

See, yorkshire rules!

I think he was!

I was always under the impression that he was a bit of a square. He never talked about anything remotely rude.

lol thats why people liked him kinda. He was just a normal guy. I know he did a lot of charity work for free up here in Yorkshire; i daresay we've heard more about him up here anyway coz he did our news for... 16? years and of course the national fave countdown, plus he was born in Yorkshire.

He wasn't one of these "omg look at me im famous" in your face morons. just one of those that you imagine being around forever coz, well... he was. lol. anyhoo his nickname was Twice Nightly Whiteley... he did talk about rude stuff, just not "omg tits!", it was in a 'dad' kinda way where he used puns. damn he had cheesy jokes.

hehe didnt know he was one of the slowest round in top gear.

anyhoo im intrigued, might have to watch countdown tomorrow (day off work lol) to see how weird it is with another presenter.

Well they have plenty of pre-recorded episodes, but last time i checked channel four were discussing the act of using them.

personally i think he'd want them to use the episodes. After all, he never missed presenting an episode in 23 years, I don't think he'd want them to not use some after he's died. He might as well get a few extra 'not missed' episodes ;)

no they wouldn't lol. thats why people liked him i think. most people on tv or whatever feel they have to 'break the states' whereas as far as i know, he only ever did calendar and countdown, with the odd guest appearance/interview on other stuff.
