Merry retailermas. Merry commercializedmas.

btw....there's no reason to believe Christ (Assuming his existence) was actually born December 25th. There's as much argument for other dates. In fact, the bible refers to shephers out in the field, tending their flocks (in the middle of winter?) and farmers out in their fields (when nothing's growing). So, chances are, Christ was not born in December at all.

So....why December 25th? Well, as luck would have it, a large pagan holiday happens to fall in that area, specifically Saturnalia. It's basically a winter solstice celebration. This celebration was quite popular with the pagans around the time Christianity began to rear it's ugly head.

So....why remove a holiday and piss off alot of people who enjoy being off of work and chilling in their cribs? Just replace it with something unPagan like, say, Christ's birthday. Thus, Christmas surplanted Saturnalia and what was a pagan winter solstice ritual became an adequately devout Christian holiday.

So....let's put the pagan winter solstice back in Christmas!

Hmmm, I don't rightly remember the exact word for word story (as I'm sure everyone except priests dont) but maybe it's on about these people tending to there crops/herd whatever, but maybe this was not the same time? maybe the star of bethlehem actually appear nine months before hand, and the all these people travelled with it for nine months and it came to rest a bethlehem.

Those wise men musta had some journey ;)

Almost every "Christian" holiday was originally a pagan one. Early Christian rulers also built churches on places of pagan worship, with a local saint and a vague miracle to keep the backward locals happy.

Oh ehr... and happy christmas all. :)

Hey maybe it was santa. Could be some guy dressed up as santa got really drunk and drove into Peltz' car. You don't know that. I bet it's payback for Peltz eating Rudolph.

That's just cos Santa has a soft spot for criminals, as has been established with Peltz' adventure. ;) And show and tell my goodies...I just might. One thing you can be sure to expect is either socks, mittens (word?) or a shawl from my grandma. She's got over over 30 grandchildren (counting their optional spouses) and she still insists on buying each and everyone of us a present with her small pension. Love her. :)
